I know the quality for American made strats is much better, but they also cost a lot more. Is the American really worth the extra bucks or should i just pick up a MIM. thanks.

Hello Regmeister5,

I liked the American better but couldn't
afford a new one, so I bought used.

Cheers.

Try a Highway One. I did and ended up buying it. We live on the necks and the Highway One neck is smooth like the American neck. I found several MIMs with rough necks. I'm swapping out the pickups with CS Fat50s next week when my order comes in, and then I'll have a really killer instrument. Fender lets you in the back door of the Custom Shop if you don't have the money or the chops for a full-on Custom Shop guitar yet. I don't have either so I'm working my way up. I'm already fairly old but I play even older Blues music.

i have a deluxe players... great guitar but if you have the money, go for the american... i'd rather have a deluxe players and a great amp though rather than an american deluxe and a mediocre amp

Both in build quality ,
and I don't like buying product made outside of North America if at all possible.

'Have an old AS Stratocaster and 2 MMs which were set up by a truly hot tech. All play the same and sound excellent; the AS is a just plain nicer-quality guitar.

American was better for me. The Highway 1 was right behind for me though when I was trying to decide.

The MiM is probably the best affordable guitar out there. I bought one in 1996 (my first guitar) and I played it to the point that the frets were wiped out, the pickups rusty...it was trashed. And then I manged to trade it in for about $150 towards a 2008 American Standard. Held its value pretty well.

The American Standard is more expensive. Once the Strat wins you over, the expense will seem justified. I found the electronics to be more sensitive...better pickups, better volume control.

Bottom line: I think your amp/tone is more important than the guitar...especially when splitting hairs between Mim and American. Second, I think you should choose a guitar that plays right for you off the shelf, without having to immediately be switching out components.

i agree... i think the mexican is an excellent guitar, the best for the money, and will suit you for 10 or so years depending on how you play it.... over that time, you could save for an american deluxe and get it when you feel ready
