Did it? Don't remember the subtitles, but I'll take your word.

Anyhow. My grandad on my dad's side was a docker on the Clyde. So nothing scares me!

Lads I feel like 2 well-known supermarket chains let us down on this partic'ler event (Ceri might know why I chose that partic'ler spelling ;-)), cause after a long search I stood in front of many sold-out shelves, save one. Containing vegetarian Haggis. I bought some cod instead. Still, I shall celebrate my own Burns Night, soon to be rescheduled.

Cheers guys

(Oh and some may be happy to hear that a large purchase of Innis & Gunn hath taken place)

Not me, I'll stick to pizza tonight.

But for this occasion I'll have a Chivas instead of a Bushmills.

Nice thread, alanssaab!

Slange var to you and your kin. Unfortunately I'm a mere Sassenach but I usually make the effort haggis-wise and enjoy it (Tesco-version obviously). Now I realise I forgot this year. Damn. Still they'll be half price tomorrow!

Go on then! :D

My friend makes the best pakoras out there. I'll forward your method to him and we'll give it a try.

Cheers - C

Not to change the subject. But I grew up in pakoras. My momma makes the best.

Never tried Hagis. I am sure it is a tastey delight. Enjoy your meal!

well that rocked , you just can't beat some good tasty haggis 8) for my american friends you'll need to find a butcher in the states that makes haggis , i tried to send some to some friends a few years ago and came up against a federal law which stated that you cannot import offal products into the USA , but there are butchers of scottish descent who do make it for scottish clan gatherings over there . those in canada are probably able to easilly source haggis due to the high numbers of scots who have made canada theire home in the past , if you can get you'r hands on some i urge you to try it , it is the food of the gods :D trust me , cheers
Alan

I would gladly try haggis...I have not yet had opportunity to do so. But I'll try anything once, (shoot, I'll try it twice if it feels good...and three times if it hurts!).

I have eaten (and enjoyed) menudo (the soup, not the band), chitlins, squirrel, blackeyed peas with pig knuckles, cabrito (goat), nopales (no-pa-les, which most people identify as prickly pear catus--slice it up and scramble them in some eggs, and umm-umm!), Chicarronnes (pork skins made the Mexican way), prickly pears (the fruit), wild mustang grape jam (made by my aunt), poke salad, shark steak, calf fries (mountain oysters, AKA cow testicles), ostrich, buffalo, beefalo (cow mated with buffalo), quail, quail eggs, rattlesnake (very good fried), frog legs, alligator, fried pickles (don't knock it), turnip/collard/mustard greens (all vaguely similar), wild boar (cooked in the ground), rutabaga pie and several other vaguely exotic (or redneck) dishes that the average person would not eat.

I have eaten (and did not enjoy) possum, duck eggs, mole con pollo (chicken with mow-lay sauce, a traditional Mexican dish that sucks, no matter who makes it) and venison tacos. I have eaten venison most of my life and have decided I don't like venison.

I will not eat liver in any form. Besides the taste (nasty no matter how it's prepared), that particular organ is a filter. I do not eat filters.

First off, I haven't tried it, nor did I know what it was until Ceri gave the ingredients, and I'm not sure that helped the cause of me ever eating it, but maybe if I ran into someone who made it, I hadn't eaten in a few days, and there wasn't food in the near future, I'd think about eating it.

Screamin', I hate to hear that you don't like venison. It's about all we eat at my house as far as meat (it's our beef) is concerned. Ofcourse, we eat fish, seafood, home grown chickens, and pork. Granted, you have to know how to butcher, prepare, and cook venison the correct way. As far as eating filters, I'm with you. Livers and kidneys weren't meant to be eaten. I don't eat brains either.

I forgot rabbit! I've eaten both wild rabbit and domesticated (cage-raised) rabbit...not bad at all, especially if it's half-roasted then placed in a stew...yum!

In Africa I've eaten zebra, crocodile, ostrich, antilope, kudu and buffalo. Not all on the same plate, obviously: that would be greedy.

Cheers - C
