I was just on The Troggs website and there's a letter there from the lead singer and founder Reg Presley.Reg says that he has no choice but disband The Troggs as he has developed lung cancer and is receiving chemo. If you are a Troggs fan and wish to pass on your good wishes and support to Reg you can write to him in care of his fan club:
Jacqueline Ryan
56 Wait Davies Rd.
London,SE 12 OND
England.

or you can go to The Troggs Official website: http://www.my-generation.org.uk/troggs/

My thoughts and prayers are with Reg.It's funny with musical heroes of ours even though we have most likely never met them you develop a connection with them just like you've been friends for years.I guess it's because we know so much about them from being under the microscope for so long you forget the fact that they don't kow you from Adam.

Not to be disrespectful of a sick man but I had assumed they disbanded a couple of decades ago. I suppose they must have mostly played live shows close to home then as I have not even heard their name for a couple of decades except if Wild Thing comes over the radio.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

WOW -- a shocker.

God bless Reg.

An old timer who always hung in.

Sorry to hear it, love The Troggs, opened for them in NYC many years ago. Good luck Reg.

Unbeknownst to most North American audiences the Troggs have been going strong in England and Europe-especially Germany and France ever since the 60's.Reg and lead guitarist Chris Britton are the only original members but the other 2"new"members have been with them for 25 years.

Twang99:You were so lucky to have opened for the Troggs, did you get to hang out or party with them?

BTW Reg Presley was deeply involved with a supposed "super amalgam" it was some mysterious kind of Gold but the name of it escapes me right now but it was big news in the 80's and 90's.I believe if you Google Reg Presley or look him up in Wikipedia you may find out more on it.There were a lot of believers in this compound but the nay sayers likened it to snake oil.

I confess I too thought they broke up in the '70s.
Fight the good fight!

I don't recall hanging out with them like pals, but did get the guitar player to show me how to play "Love Is all Around". Saw them in Times Square on New Years around 05 and they rocked big.
