Here's a little audio engineering tip... instead of adding to your sound, take away from it.

If you have a good EQ unit/pedal, you can really tweak your sound. A parametric EQ is the best. Just crank up the gain 100% and slowly turn the frequency knob. When you hit a frequency that annoys you, dropthe gain down until you have taken enough of it out. Keep doing this with other frequencies. You may be able to find the sound in your head by getting rid of the junk frequencies coming out of the amp. You should be left with the frequencies you want without changing them by cranking them up individually. Most computer recording programs will have a parametric EQ. Try it and let me know if it helps.

Man all you need is a treble boost. Go get one of those and let me know how it works.

Nope, Wellbutrin and maybe the occasional Xanax.

man i finally found the sound that i was looking for. Thanks for all of your input guys. I just had to put it down and walk away from it awhile and clear my mind so that when i came back to mess with it, i was able ti think alot more clearly about what i wanted in my sound and was able to get it.

That's good stuff, dude.

After years of always being to poor to afford the gear I want (I leak money), I've adopted quite a zen approach to the whole deal, choosing instead to let my playing be dictated by the tone I'm getting. He he. I pick up my strat and just say, "right, my dear, where are you taking me today?"

Could be blues today, thrash this evening and funk tomorrow :)

I think tone, like taste, evolves. I don't play the same guitars and amps OR music I did 20 years ago-and I don't miss all that, either. It's a LONG road to get to the point where you like what you hear, at least for me anyway. But I do agree with the Zen approach. It's fun!

Too true. Too true.

Also, after attending my first tone workshop a few years ago, it became clear to me that there is no 'one tone' for me. Varety is the key. I would much rather have a good variety of workable tones than one perfect one.

Whatever the tone, I'll figure out a tune to bang out with it.

Variety is important which is why I love my Cyber Twin SE. With just a stomp or the roll of a knob and I'm playing a completely different amp, totally different tone.

hehehe, yeah, that guy could fire off a shotgun like nobodies business. Wasn't much of a guitar player, but then again his scene didn't really call for talent I don't guess.

Sorry about the grunge bashing to any of you guys who may be into it. But, I see a mark and I have to take it down. Nothing personal.

Grunge was ok in a manic depressive, paranoid schizophrenic kinda way. Wasn't for me though. I guess my generation didn't feel that let down yet.

I dunno, some Grunge was OK, though I thought 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' sounded a bit like The Police without the finesse. Punk was cool, a lot of it was DIY (Do It Yourself) stuff. That's how anyone ever starts, don't they?
