1st... Thank You Brad for making the point as to Fender's stand on this issue.

Instead of boycotting corporations and their products, would it not make more sense to be a bit more vigilant and not engage in file sharing of which the contents were not authorized....Not downloading obviously pirated files......
It's sort of like the tail wagging the dog here. Everyone is screaming about legislation but we've all gone online and clicked on content that was not authorized for distribution.
If there is a place to point boycotting efforts..then that is the people sending out pirated files for use by everyone.....

There seems to be a serious misunderstanding of property and it's use in the public context....
One of the primary reasons as to why the Occupy Wall-Street Movement ran into a legal brickwall.

Much is available for Visual/Audio Entertainment, however, being able to watch and listen does not include the right to Capture, re-edit, repackage and send out in a different format.
A public park is available to all, but is not owned by any one person, is actually owned/operated in a custodial role, by the city or town or state, which is payed for by public funding (taxes). So this means that everyone can use it but only in the context of the rules which ensure that everyone can use it. ( Paradox )
Once One claims a personal hold on the Park ( File ) it is no longer public and automatically engages a response to the contrary...

I see my analogy is a bit obtuse but this Piracy Issue is not so simple as some would like to have everyone believe, that's on both sides of the issue..... :?:  :?:

Companies supporting SOPA that we might be interested to know about include:

BOSE
BMI
CF Martin
Callaway (I'm sure some of us golf)
CBS
Dolby Labs
Electronic Arts (I'm sure some of us play golf on the PS3 as well)
FMIC
Ford
Gibson
Harley-Davidson
Monster Cable
Nashville Songwriters Assn.
NFL
NBC/Universal
Nike (of course)
Nintendo
Peavey
Pfizer (there goes Viagra)
the PGA
Production Music Assn.
RIAA
Shure
SONY (all divisions)
TaylorMadeGolf
Disney (I'm sure we have kids who watch)
UFC (I don't watch this but I bet there are member here who do)
Walmart (of course)
Xerox
Zippo

That's just a cursory glance. I'm sure there are more that I missed when I skimmed over it. What we need to do is contact some of these companies ourselves. Pick 4 or 5 that are important to you and let them know how you feel. Companies know that for every person who speaks up there are hundreds who feel the same but don't speak up. If we tell them we're boycotting them and why it's possible they may listen. We'll never know if we don't try. I contact companies from time to time to let them know about a concern I have or a complaint. They almost always respond positively.

Again: reports that Fender is on the official list of supporters of the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) are false. Fender has no affiliation with the current movement. Please note that Fender does not appear on the list of supporters as posted and recognized by the United States House of Representatives’ judiciary committee:

SOPA List

BTW ....
While I applaud Brad for indicating FMIC is not on the list, it is still true that his link to the list didn't work. FMIC does show up on the 2 or 3 lists that I was able to find simply by Googling "list of companies supporting SOPA". Please give us a better link Brad. I hope you do. I mean that but you should know that until then I'm off Fender products.

I did not see Bob Taylor's company on the lists I looked at as was previously indicated in the OP.

Edit: Oops, cross posting I guess. Link still doesn't work.

BMW-KTM...If you are going to post a list...Make sure it is accurate...
We are not going to have a meaningful debate if the facts being posted are either false or misleading.

i personally am not going to boycott some of the companies from which I buy products.
It isn't going to make a difference except to myself, Global Corporations marketplaces are too large and expended for that strategy to be efficient.....
In any case it is treating the symptoms rather than the cause.....
Boycott the conduits of piracy...That is the source and therefore the cause...
Do Your bit in not promoting illegal contexts...It doesn't sound like much when you think about it in the singular, but as demand multiplication worked in the pirated marketplace, it can also reverse itself....

We might also bring into the equation, :?: as to the WHY.. :?: :?:
Why is piracy such a problem and are the artists/musicians themselves part of the problem... :?:

Is any one aware that SOPA has been pulled... :?:
Congressional members responsible for its existence decided to pull it, revise it and possibly reintroduce it in the future with a more focused targeting point.

So if it is pulled then the list is also Offline and any list that comes up is one that is cached and no longer accurate as to the current timeline or current events..
So Googling will not get you up to date info concerning this Bill....

Thanks Brad. I can appreciate your sense of irony there, using Wiki.
OK I will relent and go back to loving Fender.

Speaking of laughing out loud, one listing I've seen circulating around on this topic was compiled by an individual with username "VodkaCranberry." Sure sounds like a reliable source to me. :-)

Thanks for clearing that up Brad.

And i think a lot of people are missing the point. No one is suggesting that you should be able to steal whatecver you want, its that the methods put forth by the bill are #$@*&!% evil and would lead to wonton censorship without cause.

Fender's on this one.
http://theoriesofconspiracy.com/2011/11 ... g-sopa.htm

Neither Fender, Gibson, Martin or Taylor's on this one.
http://venturebeat.com/2011/12/22/list- ... upporters/

Nor This one
http://www.godlikeproductions.com/forum ... 737893/pg1

But shows up on this one

My point is, don't believe everything you read and don't fan the flames without absolute proof. Gotta gig tonight, hope I don't get busted for doing covers.

Here's the real deal. It's not all about piracy. It's about censoring our right to information and opinion over the internet. The governments want us to be mushrooms. They want to feed us sheet and keep us in the dark. Think about it. A bunch of dumbasses are much easier to control.

That's entirely my point, Supro.

I don't give a damn about piracy. I don't pirate music or videos and I'm not about to start now. That don't confront me but I'm also not about to enter into some dialogue with these companies (as some suggest) to discuss how they can serve their interests better than supporting SOPA or any future equivalent that will prolly come up. That's their problem, not mine. The real issues are far more important than sombody having illegal songs on their ipod and that's why these companies still need to be contacted, so they know to never support such a broad blunt instrument again.

For everyone saying SOPA is dead, that's really only half; SOPA as SOPA is dead, but apparently it's now back as the "Protect Children From Internet Pornography" bill. I haven't read up on the new bill yet to see how similar they really are, but I'm being told it's basically a copy and paste with a new name that would make it political suicide to oppose. :?
