Quick little story..

I was given tickets for a VIP section for Slipknot in Vegas. ZW was in our section. He stood at the back of the seating just glued to his phone (texting or internet) for about 2-hrs by himself. Nobody bothered him. I told my friend, "I gotta shake his hand. He's freaking Zakk. I can't walk outta here without meeting him."

I walked up to him, told him I was a huge fan, asked if I could shake his hand. He looked me right in the eyes and flipped me off 2" from my face. Not one word.

Quick question. Why would you go to a slapnuts concert?

I know I'm in the minority on this forum. I love bands like Slipknot, Korn, Tool, Rage, Deftones, etc..

Slipknot shows are a lot of fun to watch. They have a great command of their style, and they just do a lot of fun stuff. Beating kegs with baseball bats, kicking each others drum sets around, throwing stuff at each other.

I think it's important for a band to have an identity, whatever that may be. They have a gory, devilish, crazy identity, and do a great job at showmanship for what they do. It was a Slipknot show on Halloween. Most of the crowd was dressed up. It was really a fun night.

So far I've seen Slipknot, Korn, Danzig and White Zombie all on separate Holloween nights. That holiday just seems to belong to bands like that and they tend to go all out as a result. It's not too often that bands like that end up in your town on that night, so hit it up while you have the opportunity.

Also, 2 years ago, I went to a Misfits show. It was their last show before Halloween. It took them an hour to set up. They had a whole crazy display. The drummer was set up in a castle tower. It was a tower, even though it was 3 feet tall.

Although, I was reading some if the comments from the Zakk Wylde roast, and some make me laugh out loud...

"The reason he has a bullseye on his guitar is so everyone will know exactly where that horrible sound is coming from..."

Gus G., "I grew up listening to Zakk and learned all his solos...and then I learned how to play real music..."

Zakk to Sharon Osbourne, "Of all the faces up here tonite, Sharon's is the newest. Just kidding, Mom, you don't look a day over artificial..."

Wow that's a real drag. Who knows what's going on with people when you see them out in the world but to be that rude is really lame. I noticed Scott Ian in the same row as us when I saw the Iron Maiden Flight 666 film in a NYC movie theater. I caught up to him on the way out and extended about the same enthusiasm ... got the opposite reaction. Very friendly and said thanks he appreciated it. He's one of my favorite metal guitarists.

A couple of years ago he played a concert in my home town.
Yeah, he had a couple of drinks in him. It was power chords & fists in the air. Lame stuff that any kid could pull off.
Shameful

OK, so it looks like some folks disapprove of Zakk because he throws in way too many embellishments and others disapprove because he doesn't use enough.

Just so we all understand what's really going on here, let me welcome you all to the
LETS ALL THINK OF DIFFERENT REASONS TO HATE ZAKK
thread.

I lost respect for Zakk when he called the Smashing Pumpkins "smashing suck" and said that Billy Corgan couldn't play the guitar. How many kickass rock riffs has Zakk written compared to Billy? Billy has written and released more songs than Zakk has written riffs.

What two bands are different from the others? Tool and the Deftones. Those bands aren't part of the "nu metal" scene at all. Tool and the Deftones are two of the most original bands of the last 20 years, and are part of no scenes.

And yes, Zakk is a dick. If I somehow become famous, I'd never, ever treat a fan like that no matter how bad of a mood I was in. If I were in that bad of a mood, I wouldn't go out.

Tool is easily one of my favorite bands in the world. A Perfect Circle and Puscifer are just as good. I don't have heroes, but Maynard is as close to one as I have.

I met Steve Harris and Janick Gers of Iron Maiden backstage at a show in Dallas in 1999. They were extremely kind to me and humble, down to earth guys. Janick was a bit odd, he was walking around mumbling the whole time, but Steve was just a normal guy. I'm sure he has to have an ego, but you couldn't tell.
