Has anyone got one of these? i don't know if they've been released yet or not but i saw a Guitar World video from a NAMM show showing the pedal off. Joe Bonamassa has a sig one too and it looks cool kinda metallic copper.

Anyway it'll be interesting to see how much over the standard model they charge because they have someone's name on it! I won't be surprised if it's extortionate, after all it's only a distortion pedal.

hi gary , hows it gaun ? i haven't heard of the E.J one but i saw an ad for the J.B one , i picked up an arbiter fuzz face a wee while ago , it's the germanium bugger and i have to say, for playing hendrix songs the thing just oozes the right sounds from a strat and a jcm800 half stack , drop over this way sometime and you can check it out (along with a shedload of other gear  , cheers
Alan

Fine here Alan and thanks i love to see guitar stuff! i've been a gear fanatic ever since i started playing. I have a "distortion pedal syndrome" thing wrong with me where i have to see how many different flavours of distortion pedals i can accumulate  6 at the moment!

You know the thing about the JB face is it's very bassy, very very thick sounding, from what i've seen on YT anyway. Seemingly that's the way he wanted it so... i don't usually like things as thick and bassy as that i like a bit of bite to the top end so the JB might not set the heather on fire for me.

The EJ one is just new i saw a video of it at the 2012 NAMM show where Dunlop were showing it and i saw some YT videos where Eric is using it on his board for recording his latest album.

Anyway forget about EJ's legendary attention to tone and details! all is revealed in these videos! right at the end of the series he shows us the real secret to his tone

0.39 on this video, far right of the board for EJ's new fuzz face!

Here's the NAMM video i was talking about.

Is it by Dunlop? I'd expect it to be close to the original type, because the JHF1 is only like $20 more, and it gives a much wilder tone.

I'd imagine It'd be close to the JHF1. The JHF1 is all around the most beautiful pedal I've ever laid eyes on.

To me those guys at that NAMM video had the sound too bassy, i wish they'd dialled up a better sound it really doesn't do justice to the pedal i wouldn't think, too woofy and boomy with no cut.

I'm not trying to be negative, but is there really a difference. Or is Fuzz, Fuzz and that's it? Mine is a Dunlop Fuzz Face and as near as I can tell there is little difference in the Bonamassa, and mine aside from the cool Copper and the old Red. :?

----Danny,

Hi Danny, well i don't think there is much difference really although the Bonamassa one seems to be extra bassy and this is something he asked for specifically. Whether this is spin and it's a stock fuzz face is anyone's guess. Someone wrote in the comments on YT about the sig model Eric Johnson has now with Dunlop and they said there's no way he plays a standard model like that without mods done to it!

I know from where i'm standing that i could never justify, or afford to pay, that much for a distortion unit, which to me, as you say is basically an ordinary fuzz face with a couple of tone tweaks here or there.

From the soundbites i've heard on YT vids these boutique fuzz faces don't sound any better than ordinary one's. Maybe they would live and cranked up, but via YT i don't hear the difference that the price increase would indicate should be there.

GARY: I guess if I were famous I would want my name and twinks on all my gear to. Another privilege of the wealthy.

----Danny,

Oh yeah definitely! imagine being in that world where companies are coming to you begging to give you your own sig pedal and saying "and we'll send you any amount you like! free of charge of course since you're a sig!" 8)

Now that would be too cool for words :P

I hope. I really like the Fuzzy Wuzzies. They give some pretty crazy tones when used right... Or cranked all the way up :)

Can't tell the difference really between those two Buxom, they both sound as good as each other 8)

What's interesting, to me at least, is that i remember years ago when all these racks came out and i got an Alesis Midiverb and everyone was all "this is the way it's gonna be for effects for guitar now, racks all the way!" but it hasn't worked out like that. So many folks now are using the same kind of gear as Hendrix did back then; great guitar, a few cool sounding stomp boxes and into the amp. It has a sound all it's own and seems to my ears more organic, if i can use that word, as that's the only thing i can think of to describe it.

Racks and that stuff can be cool but to me they sound too artificial and clinical.

Just read ripitup's comment, yeah that would be nice to hear what he thinks of the comparison.
