The people who create the art and those who own the property, deserve to be paid for that property at whatever level the market will bear. Making a profit from selling access to property you don't own is just theft.

but they are not selling the pirated property, they simply provide a way to upload and transfer files. would you shut down and arrest the owner of storage building's for a few clients keeping stolen goods there? they cannot check every single item that a renter places in the container.

They provide you with content they do not own at no cost. This is theft, as the owners of the property receive nothing.

They then sell advertising for huge sums of money, profiting from the work and creativity of others. There's nothing right about it.

Right, people should be paid and those stealing should be punished, but what about those of use who make art and then use sites like this to let friends family and fans get our work? Very few are saying "Yes we should have all music for free.", but I feel that this, you are guilty till proven innocent, is just crap. Under the laws they are trying to pass, that is what is happening. They could shut down a site of someone who has paid for the performance rights to a song. It is then up to that person to prove they have paid the fees. In the end cost more money and driving more people to skirt the law.

There are legitimate used for these services. I have used mega upload to move graphics I have done for people. It is easier to use this site then for me to pay for bandwidth and hosting on a FTP server. I'm not making a killing at my graphics and every little bit helps. What something like this does is hurt small business people.

what i am saying is they are just a storage facility. they do not seek out the stolen goods they simply provide an area for users to keep goods they place there. they are only charging for access to the facility (like a storage complex) and allowing advertisements to be placed on the building so to speak. say a huge office building rents out an office space to a paying client and that client robs a bank. do you shut down the complex and sue the owners for a clients crime?

Also MU has complied with DMCA request. This is just the DOJ saying SOPA/PIPA or not, we can still do it. It sucks that MU, which is based in Hong Kong, is feeling the wrath because the US "nerds" stood up to congress. And yes congress were calling computer users nerds.

also say a home owner rents out a home to someone and they deal drugs from that home. do you sue the owner and confiscate the house from them for leasing that home, or do you arrest the drug dealer?

They can do both, which is sad.

You joke but they have/are trying this. Remember when you could record the audio internally on your computer with something like cool edit but no longer? That was the RIAA working on Microsoft and soundcard people.

Think of all the people out there playing cover songs for a living.
This law would fine the band, the musicians and the clubs and
owners if passed!

This is terrible. Piracy is NOTHING but good for the music industry, and anyone who denies it simply has no clue what they're talking about.

It depends on your perspective. The reason for SOPA support from music industry bigwigs is that they haven't worked out a good way to make money from the internet yet.
