Well, keep singing when you can and a year will go by before you know it.

I've always wanted to sing. I'm really gonna try to get decent at it.

I usually write from a title, I have a notebook that I write titles down in. Once I pick a title the lyrics come pretty easy, most times.

My job takes up all of my time so I'm neither writing much nor playing much these days.

Actually, I keep a long list of titles, phrases and ideas on a spreadsheet. And, yes, once you pick one to work with it seems to make the process easier. I have Notion Progression software for songwriting, but I've had neither the time nor the inclination to master it. It's a lot of work.

I'm mostly 'old school' when it comes to writing, a #2 pencil, pad of paper, guitar and netbook with the Rhyme Zone website http://www.rhymezone.com/ loaded, oh, and I'm alone, for me songwriting is like masturbation, something done in private .

As a creative exercise, I wrote lyrics and added lead guitar to backing track this created. It's called 'I Miss My Horse' http://youtu.be/tDMrhkZHxKc.

I have a friend whose daughter rides, and one day she told me that her daughter's favorite horse had died. She also remarked how that horse was so gentle compared to new horse, so this info inspired me to write the lyrics, also I was confined to the song's 2:25min arrangement since I didn't create it.

Stopped writing lyrics before I started playing guitar. Weird I know. If I make a song up these days, its strictly instrumental. Now I sing cover stuff and apparently I don't completely suck. My young cousin (23) says I should be on glee or something. Still not sure if that's a good thing since I don't know Wth glee is. Maybe I'll start writing again and put music to it.

Most times I never set down to create a instrumental, a riff will come to me while playing and I'll create a song around like this track 'Far East'

Has anyone tried the lyric writing technique? - Where you pull random phrases from a magazine or newspaper and write them all down on a large sheet of paper until it's completely full. Then you start to find common threads and put certain phrases together. I find that this is a great way to get the wheels turning and help me use words and ideas I wouldn't normally write.

.

You know I had never heard of this until read Keith Richards' book 'Life'. Him & Mick did this for one of the Stone's early songs.
