Well, over the past couple weeks, I've focused on it more. It's a lot easier than playing atm, considering how painful my joints always get during winter. I've found that I have so much to write about and am always having new ideas. So far, I've got 3 or 4 songs in the works. Not much, but it's enjoyable to sit and write and actually think about what you're writing. I hope to have a couple complete in the next few weeks.

you mean lyrics? well, prior to yesterday, i hadnt written any lyrics since september. here are the ones that came out

waiting for what you dont want
it seems so real
cold organd and a squeezed line
it is a endless drag of original mindgames
you cant always roll the dice
even if your a twin
she see's a filtered situation
the other is a chaotic chain
spiraling out of what was there
held back by a tight rope
no one can see
they had to let him through
to the hijacked compound
what does he see

not my best, kinda obvious, lacks poetic techniques, but its good for my first one this year.
i love writting. i used to get such a rush from it that i stayed up til 5 in the morning, just writting about whatever comes to my mind.

I liked it.

But, basically, something just comes to me, from feelings or an event or something and then it turns into a sentence, which turns into a paragraph, which turns into a verse and I add and add until it's complete.

I see that my 2 main writing influences are The Ramones and Sublime.

I usually write from a title, I have a notebook that I write titles down in. Once I pick a title the lyrics come pretty easy, most times.

With lyrics, usually the whole picture comes to me and I write it or around it, or I start with one word, one idea and free-write, then edit. When I'm in lyric writing mode, I usually carry a pen a paper wherever I go. ...sometimes, I'll get an idea out of the blue, grab somebody's pen, a napkin or something to write and write it down. ...at one point, I had a bag full of poems, lyrics, and ramblings on spiral books, loose leaf paper, napkins, matchbooks, business cards, menus, etc.

When it comes to composing the music (strictly guitar parts), the inspiration usually comes to me after warming up and experimenting with a new or old technique with variations, inversions, etc. I'll just dissect something to pieces and find my own groove.

Metallica started out with covers, replacing covers with originals until they the had enough of their own material to record an album, I'm doin' the same thing!

Currently, I'm setup to wood-shed, about to go deep and will emerge with some new and interesting material!

I haven't decided whether or not I'll be a performer or a writer. I like doing both. At first I thought...eh, I'm a bit too old for this (51), but then I remembered...who cares. I'm doin' this for me and to make my contribution to humanity...to change the world with one song!

When I write guitar parts, I usually try to set a rhythm that matches the lyrics. Usually it sounds decent to me.

Buxom, good for you to like writing songs, after all when remarkable thoughts come along, you can write them down on paper or record them for the throng, just don't keep them a secret as would the ancient tong, let us all hear them if you will by and by and make your prong, keep them thoughtful, from the heart and play them loud and strong, one by one then saving the the world with your songs.

I don't want to post lyrics in le public eye. Sort of not ready yet. When I can get some more written and maybe a few hundred dollars together, I could buy some better recording gear, or rent a studio for the weekend for fun. I'd do it with my 2 friends though, cause I probably could do bass, but I know for sure that I couldn't drum.

Most of em are cheesy, Ramones-esque love-type songs.

I've also found that I can sing a bit. I don't know what compelled me to do it, but I started singing Badfish on the bus yesterday morning.

It is rather enlightening to discover that you can carry a tune. Key now is to keep up the good work. Vocal cords much like guitar strings need to be played to keep their pitch or sound quality.

Not exactly the best sound. it's rather deep and awkward.

one of my problems with singing is that I go too low sometimes and sound really muffled. If I had a lot more alone time, I'd sing a lot more.
