I have just bought the Fender CJ-290SCE (jumbo acoustic) and i have noticed that the fishman pickup is placed on the bottom part of the guitar insted of being placed on the top part as shown in the picture.
http://www.fender.com/en-IL/products/se ... 0961565021
I wanted to know if this is fine or a problem/mistake with the guitar when it was built.

I have also noticed a buzzing sound when playing 6th string open.
I found out that the battery is causing it. So I wanted to check out if this was common? (after removing the battery the guitar stoped buzzing and now when i put it back in it "buzzed" only once since)

please someone help me :(

You have a lefty guitar or it is righty guitar and your are lefty. Return it to the store. You did not see that before buying ?

Battery installation problem , probably because your preamp iss upside down ?

Return it to the store ; it is on warranty

Lol... :)
I'm not that stupid... The guitar isn't lefty just the pickup is on the bottom part.
I wanted to know if this is ok or it should be placed on the top as shown in the picture.
My guitar is the cj 290 sce model but the pickup is placed as shown in this picture:

I think you'd better show us a picture.

I think I understand. Do you mean the part on the side of the guitar with the controls and tuner? That is the preamp. That should not be on the bottom of the guitar, it should be on the top where you can reach it. The pickup you refer to is the part under the strings, that actually picks up the sound. I think that is what caused confusion.

Are you right handed? If so, with the guitar so that your left hand is ready to play the fretboard, on the neck, and your right hand is ready to pick the strings, the preamp part should be facing up. If it is not, take it back, because it should not be like that.

If you mean it is in the same position as it is on the guitar you showed, then that is a perfectly ordinary position for that peice of equipment. It is odd that it is shown to be in a different place in Fender's picture though.

Upload a picture of your guitar and we can give more certain help.

Ok I see , you should say the preapmp is on the BACK not in the Bottom. The preamp is always on front , where are the top "horn" of the guitar.

On the link you send , this is your guitar with the preamp on the back or this is a catalog photo.

If go on Google the CJ290 CE I see have the preamp in front ; the right place . Or it is a new Fender desing ?

Can you return it to the store ?

I have to admit that is an odd location for the pre-amp control panel. I don't know who's bright idea that was. It should be on the upper bout not the lower bout. The only advantage I can think of placing it there is that you wouldn't have to lift your right elbow off the guitar to reach the control panel. Still it's in a location that would be harder to see, easily knocked out of adjustment by your torso or shirt and possibly a cramped position to manipulate the controls with your fingers. I don't like it one bit.

My guitar looks exactly like the one on Fender's site. (Model CJ-290 SCE)
The only difference is the place of the preamp.
The preamp is located at the same place as in the last link.

Hi GuitarMaster2012: a part of the problem understanding your issue on this thread is that the link in the first post doesn't work. However, am I understanding it correctly? Fender's website shows the preamp on the front side of the middle bout, like this:

Image

Whereas your guitar has the preamp positioned on the lower side of the same bout, like this:

Image

That a fair summary of the situation?

Somewhere amongst Fender's written material it states words to the effect of "Fender reserve the right to change specifications at any time". And that is what has happened here. At some point Fender have decided to move the preamp on that guitar by a few inches. I don't know why, but there may be a good reason: perhaps its previous position was conflicting with the internal bracing in some way, or Fishman have changed the contour of their preamp and it fits better in the new location, or... or...

Sometimes manufacturers put the preamp right at the top of the upper bout, down close to the neck join, near the strap button on your guitar. That really is annoying, because you can't see it whilst playing. However, I can't see that the position of your preamp would bother me - but you may feel differently. If so, you have to discuss it with the shop and return it if you feel that strongly about it.

If not, well then it's just one of those little things that sometimes changes during a manufacturing process. Mildly interesting, but not of vast importance.

Cheers - C

Thank you Ceri your explanation is very helpful!!!

I was just wondering if the buzzing sound from the buttery (when playing certain notes) is a cause of the preamp position, on the lower side of the bout, and if it's a common.
When I removed the buttery and put it back in the "buzzing" stoped but im afraid that maybe something is wrong...

I would be glad to recieve an answer for this question as well:)

p.s.
How do I add a picture?
