Honestly, playing with my son's band is the best group I've been in,well there's only a bass player and drummer as the other members go,the drummer is his father in law and the bassist is a good friend....there's no ego problem,no control freaks and no pressure....no set list either,we go by the crowd, call out the next one and go to it.
It's been a great experience after all the years putting up with what stroker vance posted about.

Some ( maybe alot) of older guys in their 50's that are in bands may not go home with all the girls ( because they are geezers now) like back in the day or drink all night long.... BUT..... Some older musicians in bands that we would hope would be better adjusted in their maturity are still acting like they are little kids in dealings with other band members as people or friends. Lieing, misrepresenting, going behind ones back, hanging people out to dry , two faced, super ego, control freak, manipulators etc etc etc. Things never really change. Been there in my young days and older (now) days. Flawed people sometimes never change. Plus the music biz can be "cut-throat" , time has no boundaries on that or people who are dowsh backz.

Are you still in the band? I'm sorry to hear that you've been
through so much.
That's what I mean, I respect you seasoned pros, and amateur
gigging musicians.
When I joined the band was to improve as a musician,
I have the tools, sure I can hammer away, cut some boards
but I can't build a house.
I needed something to get me out of my comfort zone,
In order to grow musically.

A cheering crowd and good pay can go to ones head. This brings out the worst and MAYBE the best in some people. I've dealt with musicians for sure and I've never been in a band where there wasn't at least one stupid butt. That all goes with the job. Some dink wheats are worse than others though. I hope to never again fall backwards into the den of dummys running thru the stupid forrest bumping into every tree. Or then again maybe it's just me.... NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm too old. I'd just as soon hang up my spurs than put up with one more box person . Turn down a sponsorship from one of the biggest companies in the USA? Well we are talking about musicians.

Our little 3 piece used to play at a motel/lounge a few times a year,it was about 1 1/2 hour drive for us so it wasn't on our regular circuit. The hotel would put up the bands for a Friday and Saturday night gig but they had to pay for their own meals when they went to get paid. The last few times that we played there we weren't charged for our meals, the management told us that it was in appreciation for being one of the few bands that didn't trash the rooms and terrorize the rest of the hotel guests.

I never could understand what kind of kick the poseur bands got out of doing something that died with Keith Moon. They are more interested in living the perceived lifestyle than playing music.Of course they are making it harder for the guys who are serious about their craft.

We played in Houston Texas in 1980 at the Albert Pick Motel on Highway 59. 6 nights a week- 4 or 5 sets a night for 3 months . The drummer ended up throwing a plate thru the picture window in his room. Maybe that kind of gig made him do that. He was drunk. He would stand one of the beds up against the wall so he'd have more room. He did that at alot of hotel/motels. He'd have dishes from room service piled up 10 high on the dresser. He was a slob.
6 nights a week does something to you I think. It burnt me out, but I never trashed my room.
