It will soon be ice fishing season here and about the only fish caught on the island part of the province is trout-mostly brown and mud trout however ouananiche (the native Indian name for landlocked salmon)are also caught. In Labrador where my daughter's live they also go after muskies, pike, walleye and sturgeon as well as lake trout and arctic char.

guitslinger: Kokanee (A Landlocked Sockeye Salmon) Isn't it odd how similar the Indian words are so many thousands of miles away. Ouananiche & kokanee, both Indian names describing land locked salmon. Kokanee fishing is one of the most popular sport fisheries in the north west. I've never been but I would like to. 8)

I grew up in a family with some talented muscians and singers. Mostly Gospel & Country. So as a teenager I was driving my dad crazy playing my Hendrix, ZZ Top, etc.... albums. One day I asked my Dad to listen to a couple of Elvin Bishop songs. Now my Dad didn't play an instrument and he couldn't carry a tune in a bucket, but he listened. His only comment was, "Them boys can pick pretty good."

Another of my favorites is "Stealing Watermelon's" It's on the sane link. And your Dad was right. 8)

I just got through listening to "Travelin' Shoes". Has to be one of my all time favorites. I think I'm gonna try talking the guys into working this one up. Would be a great song to kick off a set.
