back in 1966, i started playing in my first band at the age of 12. since we couldn't play bars, we did a lot of private parties and weddings. my guitar teacher made sure we had a vast array of music to play, and we did alright. while my friends in high school were making about a buck an hour, we would make 25-50 bucks a night. not bad.

then the 50's hit. disco came in :( , and every rock club became a disco, and soons d.j's became a popular replacement for live bands. that ended that career.

it got me thinking - when was the last time you were at a wedding with a live band? mine was back in '83 at our wedding. no way we were going to have a disc jockey. to this day i don't have a lot of love for them

I have played a few weddings in my day (mostly with a country band I'm an occasional member of).

I have a strict policy of never playing a woman's first wedding. The reason being that she has dreamed and planned this event since she was three years old...and I'm not gonna put the stress of meeting her (possibly) outrageous expectations that she has built up in her head for the past X number of years.

I will gladly play a second or third wedding...by that time she's had her fairy tale ideas burned to the ground, and she's generally just looking to have fun at her wedding.

To answer the question, the last wedding I played was about two years ago, with the aforementioned country group "the UFJ" (Unidentified Flying Jackasses). We were paid handsomely and fed copious amounts of Bar-B-Q.

I have 5 weddings booked for 2012 so far, not a lot,
but from word of mouth of previous weddings/functions.

How the hell did you get Denny Laine, Adam Sandler and Madonna into your band???
Awesome lineup.. Though I couldn't quite place the drummer.
