Hey man,
I noticed in a previous post that you could hear what a guitarist was using.
Well this one has been bugging me...... I just cannot seem to work out the effects he is using at the beginning, Tremelo and Phaser??? I Just can't seem to nail it..
Appreciated if you can help. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LTZms54FXs

If you're talking about the "Jeeyoooww.." sound that's not the guitarist, that's the keys player over on the left (stage right). To get that kind of sound with a guitar you'd need an envelope follower that provides lots of adjustment range for both rate and attack and also direction (up/down). My EMMA Discumbobulator would get you pretty close but they've been discontinued. Run a Youtube search for envelope followers.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I know you didn't direct this to me, but I'm hearing a slow-sweeping phase shifter that is somehow being ping-ponged hard left and hard right each time the chord is played...I hear no "normal" tremolo through the middle of the second verse.

I don't know if he's running stereo rigs or if there was some after-performance editing done, but the ping-pong thing is cool...I seem to recall Dunlop having a stereo ping-pong function on their big old (purple-ish) tremolo years ago, but I never messed with one so I don't know if it was possible to slow it down that much (so that each successive chord would go right-left-right-left).

...but if you remember that function on that pedal, that might be why you are thinking "tremolo".

That's a cool song, though...I wish there were good music shows like Jools Holland here in the States. :|

I agree that it's a phaser of some kind whether guitar or synth.

No wonder I couldn't nail it if it is the keyboard player.. lol
I have spent hours on it and just couldn't get anywhere near to it.
For some insane reason to me, the first chords sounded like a trem and a slow phaser running together. OH well back to the drawing board.
But the post editing thought has put a few ideas into my head now, someone mentioned that to me a few days ago too.
Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated..
btw, I use a TC Nova System

sreaming armadillo...
Jools Holland has always been one of my favourite shows.
I remember him from his days with Squeeze and then on to "The Tube" with Paula Wilcox in the 80's. Damn fine show.
But his masterpiece has always been his live shows.
I left the UK 4 yrs ago and his Hootenanny and weekly shows are one of the things I miss.
Youtube any thing on him, he has had everyone on and they all play live.. Some of the performances are breath taking.

To my ears it sounds like an Ibanez Flying Pan which was a phaser/tremolo,panning device that they made circa 1976 and reintroduced in a limited production edition of 700 some years ago.You can pick them up on ebay for about $800.What they basically are is a phase shifter that you would use with identical amps on each side of the stage and the speed of the panning set up to coincide with the beat of the music or chord changes. That way people in front row center would get the full effect of the sound ping ponging from one side of the stage to the other.
