Here's a quick question....

I've been getting into more "old school" type of tones with my Strat. I don't have a vibrato/tremolo tube amp (I have a SS Frontman 65r  ).

I've been looking into getting a tremolo pedal to add to my pedal chain (My custom made BYOC (Build Your Own Clone) overdrive pedal and my Dunlop cry baby wah).

To me, a tremolo pedal is mandatory for "Born On The Bayou" by CCR and a boatload of other classic tunes (remember "Crimson And Clover" by Tommy James & The Shondells?).

What do you use?

This is a good question. I have been thing about getting one also. I use a 59 Bassman which also has no tremolo on it.

I bought a Danelectro "Tuna Melt" tremolo for next to nothing. It recreates that Fender 'vibrato' sound. OK for home, but it might not stand up to gigging. As mentiomed above, BOSS make a good pedal. There are good sounding pedals at every price point and you could spend $300+ on a trem pedal . . . if you wanted to.

I picked up a used Boss TR-2 last year. Don't use it every day but I like the sound of it.

The older TR-2s (pre-2008, I think?) apparently have a problem with a slight volume drop when the effect is activated. Not a really big deal but enough of a drop, from what I understand, for discerning ears to notice. So if you get one, make sure it was manufactured within the last couple of years.

I've tried at least a half dozen Tremelo pedals over the years. My search is over. This is the one I use now and will never sell. Nothing else works as well or sounds as good.

I have a Strymon Lex. It's a very good Leslie emulator but it's not a Tremolo pedal.

I find the Danelectro Cool Cat Tremolo to be a great tremolo pedal. The tremolo effect can be a soft and slow pulsating or a full on throbbing tremolo that seems to shake everything around it.Electro Harmonix makes some great pedals for the money. You should be able to find them here: http://www.danelectro.com or here: http://www.ehx.com

True but the tremolo effect and the uni-vibe pedals were both trying to make the Leslie sound.

I just picked up a great used Danelectro "Tuna Melt" Tremolo pedal on Ebay last week for some pocket change. Very nice. It does boost the volume a bit. I'm pleased with it. I don't gig so I don't care about the plastic case that alot of people complain about.
