My neck has a nitro finish but all I use is synthetic 0000 steel wool (I think made by 3M). You can use regular 0000 steel wool but that stuff gets everywhere and will stick to your pickups so make sure you mask them off. It isn't abrasive enough to take off the finish so you can use it generously. Between that and playing the guitar, the stickyness has gone away. Also, if it's a new guitar, leave it out of the case for a while.

I've also heard suggestions of using naptha but I have never tried it and I'm not sure if that applies only to nitro-cellulose finishes.

having read the product description.. it says this is for working with green wood.. wood that isnt dried.. i believe the point of this is to let it dry evenly rather than having an open spot onthe wood so it would dry quicker on one side than the other causing it to twist or warp.

i believe fender gibson etc kiln dry there wood negating the need for this product..

i have to say again ive been sanding necks for 45 years never had a problem doing that.. down to bare wood,, that i wouldnt do.. but ill never sand another since i discovered the bees wax..

hey that could be a good song... la la la

Yah, like I said they changed the description. Forget the green part. It's still the same product. They're just trying to sell it to a different market now. Ignore that part. I expect the hardwood furniture makers all tried it and quickly abondoned it once they realized it wouldn't take stain which is exactly the reason it might work here.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Personally, the concept of removing the finish is distateful, potentially messing up a guitar.

Have tho a Gibson SG Faded with VERY thin transparent finish everywhere and playing it is "playing a naked guitar."

If you feel must do something to your neck to make it a slicker satin finish, then I would use a grey 3M Scotchbrite pad. It will do the same thing as 000 steel wool without the problems associated with steel wool.
