Some super exciting news! I'm going to be playing in Memphis next month for the International Blues Challenge! :) I'm going as a part of the youth (under 21) showcase, so there won't be any competition involved for me. I'm going with the Peterson Brothers, a guitar/bass duo from Austin. I met them last summer in Austin and we decided to team up for this. Since I'm from Houston we have the backing of the Houston Blues Society, so we'll be there representing them.

Here's one of the songs we did at a gig last week. I'm playing my Highway One through my new Fender Koil Kord into my Fender Deluxe VM. I had my pedals out, but I didn't use any. Glenn's playing through a vintage 60's Super Reverb.

This is going to be the furthest away from home I've ever been, and only my third or forth time venturing outside of Texas (all previous trips were to Louisiana). So this will be something new for me. :) I'm going to try to make the most of my weekend there, so in addition to the gigs I'll probably be doing the regular tourist thing by day. Where are some places in Memphis that I ought to visit while I'm there?

Be sure to check out the local food. In places down south, it's usually killer, at least it always was when I traveled. And be sure to check any yard sales if any happen when you're there. (You never know when gear or other cool things pop up)

That`s great news TGS,you`ll love Memphis and especially Beale St.-the Mecca of every blues musician. While in Memphis you`ll have to go to Graceland, after all it was Elvis who broke down the race barrier and brought Rythym & Blues to white audiences-there are also some extremely cool and historical guitars there too. You`ll also have to check out the Rendezvous for the best ribs in the world.BTW Your playing has gotten immensely better than the last time I watched one of your videos,it`s no wonder that Hubert Sumlin was so impressed with your playing.Keep up the good work, enjoy Memphis and Knock èm out.

:D Way to go TGS. I wish I could tell you interesting places to visit while you're there, but the only thing I saw in Memphis was the airport and it seemed to have more Fedex planes than passenger planes. You guys sound great on the video...and I couldn't help but notice that the Peterson kid kicked up his game after your first solo... Ya'll should work on some give and take measure for measure if you haven't already. Enjoy yourself. Take lots of pics and vids...

I was in Memphis for the Mid-South Airshow, back in '05, and had blast! With a couple of nights and a whole day off to play tourist, we took in the sights. Walked on Beale, went to BB King's Club, toured the zoo and, of course, visited Graceland.

Thanks for all the kind words guys. :D

guitslinger: You know what? Nearly everyone I've talked to about Memphis has mentioned Rendezvous. I'll take it that means I have to go!

It's funny you mention that, because we've done that quite a bit lately. There's a couple of songs we do that on regularly, but sometimes it's just spontaneous. :)

Congrats! Never been to the IBC or even Memphis for that matter. Always wanted to do a Blues tour from Memphis to Clarksdale. Maybe someday.

Anyway, make the most of your trip. Experience the music, the food, the people, the sights. Have fun performing, too.

Great playing, you guys are gonna knock'em dead in Memphis.

Rendezvous has good ribs and slaw. I hate slaw but I had seconds when I went to Rendezvous. The only slaw I've ever liked. :D
