I thought that there would be at least 5 of these threads today. R.I.P. Elvis Aaron Presley.

wiki: "Elvis Presley brought rock'n'roll into the mainstream of popular culture", writes historian Marty Jezer. "As Presley set the artistic pace, other artists followed. ... Presley, more than anyone else, gave the young a belief in themselves as a distinct and somehow unified generation—the first in America ever to feel the power of an integrated youth culture."

Oh yea, I remember Elvis. I'll never forget, My most embarrassing moment. It was when I was about 14. My folks took Me to get some new shoos. My Dad asked the clerk if he had any "BLUE SWADE SHOES" and they all had a good laugh at my expense. I ended up with a pare of White Bucks With a leaver thing to close the top. Any one remember those. about 57or8

When I was a kid and even in my teens I was a huge Elvis fan and had seen all his movies several times. It wasn`t until I went to Graceland in 1987 did I realize the huge impact he had on me.When I walked in through the front door I felt like I was entering a sacred shrine and as I walked through the feeling got stronger until we reached the room with all the guitars that I remembered from his movies like the green Burns from Viva Los Vegas and his leather covered Martin D-28.It took 10 whole years after his death for me to realize what an influence Elvis was on me and I guess there are millions more like me.

In 1958 I was 10 years old and started going for guitar lessons. Elvis was my inspiration to get started. He was a good down to earth guy. Even played football with the other guys when he was drafted into the army.

To quote Chuck D "Elvis was a hero to most but he never meant $@!& to me"

I respect what he did and the doors he broke down, but I can't listen to an Elvis song

Elvis had a world appeal charm. My folks respected him too. He never forgot his humble beginnings either. Lets not forget his crooning voice. I can compare it with Roy Orbison and Jim Morrison. I love that sound!

There is an old saying "if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything".

Comparing Chuck D to Elvis isn't in the realm of sensibility, one has absolutely nothing to do with the other artistically. You've been here for awhile why try to make the Forum look bad?

Elvis was arguably one of the greatest Song Smith's that ever lived. I've only heard one other person refer to him as a crooner. Was he a Crooner? You bet he was, ranking right up there with Sinatra & Crosby. The mans voice was unprecedented in quality and stile. "Love Me Tender" wow what a song. And there were so many others. One right after another for years. Was he a great man? I think so, as a diplomat and a bridge builder between the generation's. He was like no other. He and his Music will live on in our hearts forever. R.I.P. Elvis 8)

I'll always remember John Lennon's quote :

http://www.memorable-quotes.com/john+lennon,a194.html

"John Lennon -
- Before Elvis, there was nothing."
