We're leaving on July 24.The sh*te weather we've had here in England has made me even more impatient! Re. photos, I guess they'll end up on Facebook so you'll have to add me as a 'friend' if you want to see them!

Thanks for all the advice.

Look like it's a hotel. I have already booked all my hotels, I'm afraid, but thanks all the same.

The drive from the South Rim to Monument Valley is a long stretch. Very scenic in spots and just long miles of desert. Beautiful country nonetheless. Monument Vally is wonderful.

A couple hours west of Monument Valley will take you to FOUR CORNERS MONUMENT. (Check my 2 hours drive time for more accurate info...been a while  )

If there are 4 of you, you can each be in a different state and be within inches of each other.

All best wishes for a safe journey. Haven't been out that way in a long time but have been talking about same with a close friend and former bandmate. Another of our ilk lives in Phoenix and we a long overdue for another visit to him, and we are all kicking around age 70 with time flying. Besides...there's the Cafe Tremolo in Tucson which is owned and operated by one of our members, and then there's our ever popular and illustrious Brad Traweek in Scottsdale.Lot's to do and so little time to do it.

Yes, it's a long drive but we're staying a couple of nights in Tuba City (Navajo Nation) so it'll be easier. Time permitting, I was thinking of going as far as Mesa Verde NP in the S.-E. corner of Colorado and returning to Tuba City via the Four Corners monument.

As you can see, I don't mind driving! The longest stretch I ever drove was from Yellowstone NP down to Rawlings WY but, having missed a turn near Lander, I ended up in Rock Springs so that was a 13-hour stretch!

I am really looking forward to the trip and have collected enough SD cards to shoot 1,000 photos... in RAW format! I love America!

We're back! What a brilliant trip it was! And not a drop of rain except when we driving back to Tuba City from the Four Corners monument. I will post a link to some photos when I have recovered from jet-lag. The best thing was, our return flight was delayed by 23 hours so we got to spend an extra night in Las Vegas at Virgin's expense!

This was my 6th visit to the US over an 11-year period (20+ states) and I must say that I have always found American people friendly, sociable and helpful.

Maybe I should have gone to Greece instead!

Here's a photo I took in Hackberry AZ along Route 66:

OK, I have made my Facebook 'USA 2012' photo album public, albeit temporarily, so feel free to have a look and like/comment on the photos (search for Gilles Coudert - my profile photo is me in front of one of the 'mittens' in Monument Valley). I have put up a selection of about 210 photos. Hope you enjoy them!

How did you like Monument Valley?

Did you notice the "Owl" on the drive towards the park?

No, I didn't see the 'Owl'; what is it? I loved Monument Valley and the whole Navajo Nation. It is uch a beautiful, photogenic place and the people are very friendly and welcoming.
