...and I like it (well at least for now). Seems to me that this pedal is as well liked as much as it is despised, but I found some tones in there that work for me. Granted that I am not a metal player, but it fits the bill for those moments when some heavy distortion is called for. The key for getting a good sound out of this is to know how to work the mid frequency and mid level controls. And since I got this pedal for the unbelievably low price of $0.00, I may consider investing in some modification to make it a little more versatile. But so far, I like the sound as is. Any other fans of the MT-2 here?

I've had 2 of them in the past. The first was stock and the second was a Keeley Twilight Zone. I found the stock pedal to be a true one trick pony. It did one thing very well but had no versatility at all, at least none I was able to appreciate. The Keeley pedal had other tones in it but nothing that couldn't be done other ways for less money. I don't hate the MT2 but I also no longer own one either. It's just not for me.

Side note:
It seems to me that all of Bob Keeley's mods lead his pedals in the same tonal direction. The only one I tried that was different from the rest was the SD1-Stacked. I do regret selling off that pedal.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I do have a MT-2 also I gotta admit is one of my favorites pedals... you can get a bunch of sounds from that pedal and if you mix it with a tube amp... mind blowing really cool pedal...

Yes. I have one and use it occasionally. It's not a one-trick pony like
some of the other dirt boxes. Still have the original box and it's been
in that box for over a year (at least) now.

I don't own a MEtal Zone, but John Frusciante has used one and so has Prince, so they can't be all bad.

I'm not the target usership for the MT-2 by a long chalk. And yet I find it a surprisingly interesting and distinctive sound. Goes to show, we need to listen to the tones, not worry about names.

A worthwhile pedal, IMHO.

Cheers - C

The Metal Zone is a cool pedal. I used to have one but sold it along with a batch of other pedals when i was hard up for cash. I regret selling those pedals another pedal i sold at the same time was one of those big silver mesa Boogie V Twin things and that i really do regret big time

I agree with Ceri; forget about the names and concentrate on the sounds; i well remember a guitar player interview with Eric Clapton in the oh! late 80's or early 90's where Eric had a Boss Heavy Metal HM-2 in his rig.

I've got one and use it from time to time. My "go to" distortion is still my old beat up MXR.

I own two MT 2's and they both sound completely different from each other. One was bought in the early 90's (which I rarely use anymore) and the other I recently bought about 8 months ago. I also use an OD/Distortion from Boss as well. I like the Metal Zone for the Rock and Metal tones I get out of it. I like the OD/Distortion for the Blues and Rock tones I get out of it. Not everyone likes the Boss distortions pedals, but I love them.
