You're basically saying, 'why would I want to take a boat to the other side of the world when I can swim?' If it wasn't for the acoustic, there would be no influences for the electric guitarists.

So you think boats were invented before swimming?

Somebody please throw him a life jacket before he drowns in his own thread

You need to get a acoustic with a neck that you like. It makes playing one more enjoyable.

And a half decent set-up too.

You'll find that alot of people play both, personally like to learn new stuff as much as possible on acoustic, then get the electric out and you've nailed it pretty quick.

That said you really need to get a good one with solid wood and great set up with a sound and action you like

Your post reaks of troll, but so you know, an acoustic can sound wonderful amplified if you actually have decent equipment. Saying that, an acoustic guitar sounds wonderful unamplified also and no, you will never get the exact tone, sound etc with an electric guitar. You can try and even get close, but it won't be the same tone or depth.

I wonder how an electric acoustic would rate in his/her little world. This thread is most certainly the work of a pubescent troll-get back to squatting pimples until you have something intelligent to contribute.

I like variety--I like my guitars to be different--I prefer playing electrics, and spend most of my guitar time on an electric--but I do have a classical & an acoustic 12 string that I love...

Why play a guitar at all? Sitting on the couch watching TV is far easier. You don't have to worry about keeping your TV in tune, you don't have to change strings. You don't have to worry about those darn calluses.

C#m you are way over complicating things. People play acoustics because they want to, simple as that.

As I am sure a lot of others here also do, I play both. I kind of equate an electric to driving a hot modern sports car and an acoustic to riding an old vintage motorcycle. Both thrill me but in much different ways...

Why would anyone want to play an acoustic guitar, at all, ever? An electric guitar is easier to play, more fun, 6,000 times more versatile (both on a macro level and even a micro level--within the same song), and can be made to sound exactly 100% like an acoustic if that's the tone one is after. Unless one lacks electricity, there is no reason to even own an acoustic guitar.

Additionally, recorded acoustic, unless played on a very very good sound system, causes each chord to sound exactly the same. All one hears is the collision between the pick and the strings with each strum. If you are going to play an acoustic, you might as well sit there and bang on a snare drum. In fact, the best use of acoustics is to turn them over and use them as a drum.

Why play an acoustic guitar?????
