I found this old post from Nikki that seems to explain his absence, assuming he got the gig:

"My audition with the band Khan.
Scottish tour in two months, then onto Europe for the new year. US and Canada for this time next year. As well as recording and every hippy/folk/weirdo festival going. Very, very busy schedule. Added bonus of a guaranteed wage that is no paltry token fee.
No setlist to learn, no songs to familiarize myself with. Just turn up, plug in and see if you fit in. Suppose they want to see adaptability and musicianship over preparation. At least thats what I'm telling myself.

The Ninja's doing just fine. Haven't seen him since a Joe Bonamassa gig a couple of months ago but talked to him just before Christmas: seemed on very good form.

I think he has his hands quite full with work, family and musical commitments at present.
