This band played many styles of music. I thought this one of their funkiest.

Since you said please.

You posted Ramsey Lewis on another thread and it made me think of 2 other tracks so here's all 3:

War:

Ramsey Lewis:

and in the 90's GURU (Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal) from the group Gang Starr did a series of albums called Jazzmatazz where he brought Jazz musicians (Freddy Hubbard, Ramsey Lewis, Branford Marsalis, Kenny Garrett, Ronny Jordan etc) into the studio and had them play while he rapped:

Cool jams Rev J. GURU is a creative artist. War unsung hero's, won the war can you dig it? Smooth baritone Gil. I like his delivery almost like he takes it personal

Yeah. He died in 2010 from lung cancer. He and J Dilla will be sorely missed.

To me it's a short jump in delivery and subject matter from Gil Scott Heron and Curtis Mayfield:

to:

In keeping with the vibe. This is what I'm playing in the background at work today:

I did a temp gig at an industrial lighting company texturing plexiglass covers using an orbital sander and sandblaster. Every day about an hour before quitting time when it was time to clean up I could barely hear this on the radio over the din of machinery:

So this always brings back memories.

The Impressions, 1969 at the Holiday ballroom (now a bus terminal) they were great. I really liked all of those vocal groups and their bands were fantastic. Thanks for GURU and Q-tip, Jamiroquai are jammers, childish lifting from the Delfonics/Stylistics intro style but no substance after IMHO YMMV, love the funk and nothin' but the funk thx, BadBadNotGood is pretty good actually. I have a new artist Rev J.

Here is one from that early Jamiroquai time frame, hot dang

The first concert I went to without my parents was the Spin Doctors with Soul Asylum and The Screaming Trees.

Here's a couple of other tracks off that album:

There was/is a lot of FUnk on the Jam Band Scene.

Like this:

Fun Fact Christopher Barron (Spin Doctors vocalist), John Popper (Blues Traveler) and Trey Anastasio (Phish) all went to Prinston High School and sang in the choir at the same time.

While we're on the subject of Jam Band FUnk:

Govt. Mule with Rocco Prestia sitting in.

The album version had John Scofield and Chris Wood (Medeski, Martin and Wood) sitting in.

Some members went Guitarist Jimmy Herring also went on to play with Lenny White, Billy Cobham, and The Dead. Bassist Oteil Burbridge went on to play with The Dead, and the Allman Brothers.

Before Solid Body Lovesong's last post I didn't know which direction this was going to take I almost started dropping some 90's FUnk Metal.

Rev J
