My index finger and the G string don't get along

I don't know what it is but any chord I play that involve my index finger on the G string (especially a D chord) it sounds out of tune.....BUT IT'S NOT. I don't know if I'm to far forward with my finger or I'm pussing to hard( I realize you can only push until the string hits the board and that's it). What the heck is it? It drives me nuts.
