People have shown us some beautiful guitar racks, but I'm hopping that some of you can show me how you made an inexpensive rack to store your guitars in their cases. I'm thinking 2X4's, easy to make, standing the cases on end, tilted. I want to safely store them, not display, and be able to have easy access. Something to build in a storage area such as a walk in closet or against a basement wall. No better place to ask then the Fender forums, right?

Here's what I did when I remodeled the basement in our old house. Off one end of the Music Room (and cleverly hidden behind a work bench outside the Music Room) I built a small closet, lined it all with lacquered tongue & groove pine, then threw up some good clean 2x4s, spaced such that my Fender molded cases would sit down a bit into a groove, but the flat cases could straddle and stay straight.

It's worked very well, there's still room for me to get in and out and there's a light on the ceiling overhead. The only thing is I have about 20 more guitars now than when I built the closet, so I'm a bit cramped in the Music Room itself. Oh, well, just something I have to put up with, for now.

The guitar closet is back behind that blue curtain - I'm still planning a door of T&G pine that will blend in well enough to make the little closet invisible... a little, tiny extra safety measure should someone get in here when I'm not around - mind the dogs, though!

Simply beautiful what you did. I get an idea of how you constructed it, enough to try and come up with some similar plans. Thank you, and HNY to you and all on this forum!

Sorry I couldn't stick in a couple of pictures without all the guitars in the way - yeah, those are not empty cases - but I just don't have anyplace to put those darned things to get a picture!

There's a 2x4 on edge against the walls, then a 2x4 flat on top of that one. The outer row is obvious, a flat 2x4 with a support in the middle. It'll take a ton of weight.

Have fun!
