Please pardon my ignorance regarding amps in general.

All of the major online retailers have the '59 Bassman LTD 4x10 reissue listed as a guitar amp. Not as a bass amp. The original bassman was a bass amp that was co-opted (spelling?) by guitarists because they liked it.

Is it perfectly okay to play bass with the reissue? Or is it strictly for guitar? I know you can damage guitar amps by plugging in a bass. Or would I even want to use it for bass?

Again excuse my ignorance. I was just wondering.

While the 59 bassman reissue can be used as a bass amp, I believe the 4x10 Jensen speakers are voiced for guitar and aren't bass drivers. The original bassman was good for bass back in the day because a 60 watt combo was all you needed, you didn't have to worry about the guitarist's 12 watt Fender Deluxe drowning you out. Eventually, when music got louder, bass amplification had to adapt. The 59 bassman was found to be an excellent guitar amp though due to its loud volume and overdrive sound when pushed, I believe the bassman circuit was the basis for the first generation of Marshall amplifiers (With modifications of course).

To answer your question, yes it can be used as a bass amp. I'd only suggest it for studio or smaller gig settings as it will not be nearly as loud as modern bass amps. You also won't get as much low end due to the guitar speakers, but not everybody needs gut pounding lows ^^
