Is there a holy grail of delay pedals?

I think the eventide Time factor may be the holy grail of delay pedals, close second would be a boomerang 3.

just my thoughts though, Delay is such a cool effect.

Is there any noticeable "White Noise" with the MXR and Boss when turned on?

Hmm, fair question - and I'm away from mine over the Christmas break so I can't go fire it up and give you a definitive answer immediately. All I can tell you is I've never noticed noise such that I can remember it to tell you now. I think it is very quiet - and I'll be double-checking that when I'm back with it...

Oh man Ceri I hope it is. I never noticed it with my GE-7 until I read about it. Now I hear it everytime I turn it on. I hope I didn't jinx you and thanks for your replies.

Hi djwhitjr: just to come back to this point, I have now sat down with my DD-20 and checked and I can confirm that there is no noise and no switching lag. Just to be absolutely sure I have tested it thoroughly and rigorously for an hour - purely out of the goodness of my heart. It was a tough job but someone had to do it. :|

We're not too suprised: Boss/Roland didn't get to be the biggest company in the music business by making pedals with crumbily designed circuits. But now we're certain.

Cheers - C

You are a real trooper Ceri.

I think I have my choice narrowed down to the MXR Carbon Copy and TC Flashback. I like the DD20 but it's a little too close to the delays I already have on my ME50.

I'll re-post when I make my final purchase. Also thanks to everyone who responded. A lot of good info was given which is why I love this forum.

It's official, I just picked up a used in "excellent condition" MXR Carbon Copy on Ebay for $100. I can't wait for it to get here.

Thanks again for everyones input.

The Carbon Copy is an awesome pedal. Sounds very rich. I might be looking to replace mine though, as it does colour your sound. (It is advertised as True Hardwire Bypass, which is a whole other thing from True Bypass). I just thought my OD sounded better without it in the chain.

Maybe I'll keep it, who knows? If it's one pedal from today that's to become a classic that's the one, methinks.

I'm currently using my Boss ME50 in my effects loop for modulation and time effects so I think the MXR should be a huge improvement.

Reality is any combination of pedals in your chain is going to affect your sound. Even true bypass because you are adding more cable / resistance to your signal. Albiet minimal, IMO.
