That's a great point Ceri. I'm currently using the delay on my Boss ME-50. My main gripe about the ME-50 is the time lag when switching between presets. It's not "immediate" as with single stomp boxes.

Is that right? I wonder if there's something wrong with it? I also have an ME-50 somewhere at the bottom of the toy box and I never noticed a lag on it. I'm kinda picky about those sorts of things so I think I'd notice if it was there. Still, something else I have to check up on when I'm home in a couple of days! :D

BTW, I'm coming over as a bit of a Boss fanboy on this thread. I assure you I like other brands too!

Cheers - C

I've picked up a Electro-Harmonix Memory Boy and think it works well with Gilmour/Floyd tones. I run it with my RP-500 and several other pedals that I just added to it for more versitility. It has up to 550ms of delay and you can also use it as Vibrato/Chorus sound also. Check them out on youtube.

It's not a major lag Ceri but I can hear all the effects shut off and switch over when moving between patches. Maybe I'm just crazy!

Boss pedals are built like tanks! I have nothing against them. Actually most of my pedals are by Boss and the DD20 looks like a nice pedal. It's on my shortlist.

DJ I mean't to post this earlier. Premier Guitar had a great article on delay pedals and how to get the most out of them. Follow the link.

BMW mentioned the Eventide which is the best one out there in my opinion. It does analogue and digital. the Line 6 DL4 is is a good choice in your price range. You can pick one up used around $140.00 to $160.00. As to your concern about the time delay in changing patches on the ME50 you will find that issue with most Boss delays and multi effect pedals. It's about 2 seconds. Its the only complaint I've ever had about their delays.

Cripes! I'm going to very politely differ about that! A two second switching lag would have any pedal hurled out the window in the space of a slapback delay, far as I'm concerned. It would be utterly intolerable.

No Boss or any other pedal that I own suffers anything remotely like that. The thought of it makes my hair stand on end like I'm auditioning for a Jackson Five tribute band...

As a great man said; YMMV.

Cheers - C

 I should clarify Ceri. I was refering to the 2 seconds I have to hold the button down to change the tap tempo on my DD6. I also had to do this on my ME20 when changing the programming on a patch. :?

Ah-ha, OK, fair enough! :D

I'm away from home but I do have my old GT-3 with me. I was on the verge of firing up the crappy practice amp just to go hunting for horrorfying switch lags I'd never noticed before. Which would not be popular with the neighbours - we're out in a peaceful rural location and it is half-past midnight over here at this second.

Still, might have to give it a quick test in the morning (any excuse...).

Cheers guys - C

I just got a TC Electronic Flashback pedal (ebay) and I
thought that the toneprint was just a gimmick to bump sales
but it's amazing and you CAN download tones that you can't
just dial in with knobs.

The Electro Harmonix line of delay pedals is worth checking out. From the Memory Toy to the Memory Man Deluxe the Electro Harmonix pedals give a digital quality delay through an analogue pedal.I had a Memory Man and when combined with my Electric Mistress I could get the real Jimi Hendrix's House Burning Down effect and I could listen to it for hours especially when using 2 flangers with one set fast with light intensity and one set slow with medium to high intensity. Look here for info: http://www.ehx.com/

I've been using the DD-7 for several years now and it's been an all around great pedal. Very versatile and rugged. Never let me down. I'm pretty sure you could get gilmore tones from it.

I'm looking to buy a delay pedal but not sure where to start. What features do you look for in a delay pedal? 600ms enough for Gilmore tones or do I need more?

The memory man, mxr carbon copy, and tc flashback look nice. The T Rex Replica sounds awesome but is out of my price range and the Line 6 DL4 looks ginormous.

What features do you look for in a delay pedal? 600ms enough for Gilmore tones? Advantage to analog or digital? Is there a holy grail of delay pedals? etc, including anything else I may have left out.

Get the MXR Carbon Copy. Does a great job. I had been on a delay quest for a while and settled on simplicity. Between the boss and digitechs I just wasn't happy. I also use a GE7 and experience no noise. I also use a TS9 turbo, I had an OCD, but felt the TS did a better job for me. Your ears will settle it though. Good luck

I have a Line 6 DL4 and it covers just about any echo sound you could ever dream of plus it's also got a loop function, half speed and other crazy things! very inspiring pedal. The only down thing i could say is there's almost too much choice!
