I started out on a Wilson tennis racket:) My sister got the racket with the imaginary strings as you can see. Then my grandparents got me a real acoustic, even as small as it was it was still too big for me for a long time. I sold it when I was in high school to a girl who wanted to learn how to play for the talent show. She won with an Edie Brickell tune...

I tore my first bass from the hands of a session musician coming out of Motown studios. It wasn't even worth the trouble, as he had ruined it by carving/writing "Funk" on the neck heel at some time when he owned it. I pulled a Hendrix on it and threw the parts away after that.

Hee heee. Just kidding.

My first axe was a 'burst Stella acoustic. Hard on the hands but good to the memories. My cousin gave it to me.

Dude.. I have that same amp. I'm literally sitting 5-feet away from it right now. That's where I got the knobs for my new parts-Tele:

Very cool, JS!
Did you glue the little metal rings with the numbers on them to the knobs? As you can see from my picture, they fell off three of the knobs on my amp (before I took possession)...I need to find some of those one of these days

My first guitar came to me on Christmas Day 1967. It was a no name $10 acoustic, but back then I wanted a guitar. Any guitar! My uncle came over tuned it for me and showed me a couple of chords.

My first electric came a year later. It was a "Prestige"-branded cheese cutter from Japan. My first amp was an old Alamo tube amp. And yes, they were built in San Antonio, TX.

My first guitar was a Gibson Epoch Les Paul, equal to that of the Gibson Maestros or First Act guitars.

I was 18, bought it for $180 used at the local music store. I wanted to learn guitar on a whim hoping it would cheer me up having just wrecked my first car. Figured I could do it based on the facts that I was good at Guitar Hero and played trombone in Middle School. Later found out the box set sold for $90 when it was available. First amp was a 9V portable Karrera amp that sounded like the $25 I paid for it.

CRGuitarMan, thought that I responded to this. I'm pretty sure that I've posted this on a few of these threads, my first guitar was a Silvertone acoustic guitar given to me by my parents when I was 5 years old. I don't have a picture of it but this photo looks like it.

Is it sad that I can remember my first guitar including the model number, but I can't remember the name of any of my first girlfriends?

Mine was Ellen Vaughan... 8th grade.

Asked her out for a Burger.

We took the bus into Highland Village to the Flame Broiler on a Tues., because that was 2-for-1 day.

Halfway through, I couldn't believe I wasted $1.95 (+ bus fare) on her, she was sooo conceded. Wanted to get her home tout suite ! :x

Next day at school, she told all her girlfriends I took her out and paid for everything !!

Suddenly, I was Hot Sh*t w/ all the other girls in the class. 8)

Maybe the best $1.95 ($2.20 w/ bus fare) I ever spent afterall !!

cheers!
