Years ago, there was a magazine with tab for a Ritchie Blackmore "snake charmer" scale that many of Blackmore's solos are built around. I can't recall it for the life of me, and I had no luck with Google.
Anyone remember this one? Lord knows, I probably have the magazine in storage somewhere.
Thanks,
SB :?:

Do you mean the B Phrygian Dominant Scale (B, C, D#, E, F#, G, A), in actuality, the fifth mode of E Harmonic Minor? Nah, never heard of it.

I got thinking about the song and the eastern-influenced riffs and googled
a bit and was able to find this, for what it's worth :

You can press ctrl and + to make it larger and then ctrl and - to go back.

For those who get a little confused about modes here is a nice tool that can help put it into practice:

http://www.modemaster.com/

Select the key and mode of your choice from the drop down menus and the program does the rest. You will find the Hungarian Minor scale mentioned by Mike's article amongst them.

Have fun - C

thank you Mr. Ceri. i'm about to crack open my first of several beers that will be consumed today. it is new years eve and our 10 year wedding anniversary. mrs. jeebus is not feeling well and i was wondering how i could get some jam time in without bugging her too much. i'm going to experiment with modemaster with the headphones and some backing tracks.
thanx and happy new year sir.

Hey, all. The "Ritchie Blackmore snake charmer scale" story is in the Trading Licks section of the November 1985 issue of Guitar World. Stevie Ray Vaughan is on the cover.
