This is a good one! What happens to the output of an amp in relation to the impedance rating of a cab? If the speaker output of a tube head or combo says minimum 4ohms and the amp is rated at 5 watts, what happens if you feed it into a 8, 12 or 16 ohm speaker cab?
Also I'm using 12ga speaker wire with 1/4in. plugs on each end to feed a 16ohm 1x12 from a Vibro Champ XD. Is that OK or should I be using coaxial speaker cable?

Thanks

Here's a link from Mesa boogie that has some good info on extension cabs, there's lots of stuff on the net about this.

Heed the info in the Mesa link. Whenever I use, say one of my 16 ohm cabs on one of my 4 or 8 ohm amps, my tone suffers, I just don't like what it does. Sounds like I have less power, feel and punch. It is safe though and some folks like the muddy, dark sound. I'm planning on getting a Weber Z Matcher. That way I'll be able to use my Egnater cabs with my SF Champ, my Guild porch weasel or anything else I want.
I have access to a lot of cabinets through friends and I think it would be fun.
http://taweber.powweb.com/store/zmatch.htm I'm sure there are other devices around that do the same thing.
