While I was in Memphis a couple of weeks ago for Scotty's party some of the guys had booked Sun to do some recording. A few of us hung out there during and I took a few pix for them. It should give you a feel for the layout and the control room (if you didn't have one already).

If you look at the last photo (http://www.pbase.com/jroy/image/140381106) on the right you'll see the type of mic (contrary to what you've been told) that Elvis sang in when he recorded there. Its in front of the picture of him singing on the wall.

And when you're done, check out this recent interview with Chris Isaak

Those pics bring back memories of the visit & tour that I had at Sun a few years back. I was told that the 'Elvis' mic in the picture wasn't the mic Elvis used to record.

I bought a vintage Shure 55SW at a estate sale for $25!

It was cool to see Howlin' Wolf picture/poster in the background.

The picture of Elvis on the picture wasn't taken at SUN and isn't the one used. They have an old 55 they gotr from Sam that they tell everyone is the one Elvis used because Sam told them that. In actuality he used an Atlec coke bottle mic, likme the one on the stand in "front of" that picture.

That's cheap money for the SW, a lot less than I've got into my 55S

I brought it over 12yrs ago, and I'm sure that the sellers didn't know what the value of the mic. There were two, and I wished that I had brought the other one, but there was only one mic cord.

In fact I learned more about the mic on Scotty's website http://scottymoore.net/shure55s.html.
