I chased Lady Armadillo for eight years before she finally let me take her out on a date. The thing that changed the dynamic between us was me blowing her off for the first time (she asked me to do something for her that I would previously jumped through hoops for and I said no). That's not completely related to "love", but try this:

Before I decided that, although I was attracted to her (both looks and personality), I didn't know if I LIKED her as a person. (Yes, a person can have an attractive personality, but you may not like them as a person...I dated a pretty, intelligent and very funny girl years ago, but she could be very hateful and manipulative, thus I found I didn't like her as a person).

When I took the pressure of trying to start a romance with Lady Armadillo and started hanging out with her as a friend, and I found I liked her, not just a romantic attraction, but I truly enjoyed her company.

Ceri's dead on about caring more about them and their wants & needs mores than your own...

When Lady Armadillo's close friend finally told me, "Hey Doofus, it's time to ask her out again...if only to get her to shut up talking about you. I'm sick of listening about it. By the way, did you need her to draw uou a picture? She's been dropping hints for weeks, now..."
I realized our friendship had finally blossomed into something greater for her as well as me. I'm not good looking, I'm not rich, and I'm reasonably intelligent (I know enough to come out of the rain, at least), but I won the heart of the sweetest, smartest and hottest girl I know by being her friend.

BTW, I don't agree with everything Rebelsoul said, but he is right about one thing: whomever you end up in a relationship with--married, whatever--the initial urge to wear one another out with...erm, "lovin'" will eventually lessen to a degree. If you are not friends before that happens, or have nothing to talk about or do together, that relationship will fail. I've seen that happen to several friends of mine, and their marriages either broke up or became business arrangements. And that's sad.

You're young...go easy and go slow. It will eventually work out just fine.

When something happens during the day and they are the first person you want to talk to about it, they might be the one. Or if a bad day with them is better than a good day with someone else, they might be the one. Or after 20 years they make you smile when they walk in the room, ....It might take some time but you will know it.

Thanks SA. I'm actually really good friends with her and we hang out almost every weekend (considering we go to different schools) But I can't see her on break. She'll be in Texas and I'll be alone. I'm cool with that because I finally get some down time during this rough school year  But seriously, SA, your story was great. Thanks again.

If I were married to my wife's cousin, I would agree 1000%

Lady Armadillo has a cousin who is the antithesis of Lady Armadillo.

Surly, selfish, haughty, manipulative, angry, lazy...and those are her good qualities!

That's what I meant by, "I would agree with RebelSoul (and think that love is BS) if I were married to my wife's cousin..."

But seriously, everything about her drew me to her, as a best friend, and hopefully as more some day.

Not if she were the last woman on earth and the future of humankind depended on it.
