I am having an issue (I think) with my new Squier J Mascis Jazzmaster. I'm not sure where to post this, the Squier section or all other Fenders, so I figured the lounge would be the best place.
I haven't had much amp time with this new guitar, only unplugged or through the Line 6 Toneport into my computer. I had it plugged in last night, amp was clean, volume set to 3 (decently loud). The guitar was on the rhythm circuit, nice and hot and I flipped it to the lead circuit and the volume decreased significantly. All volumes were turned up on the guitar. Is this a characteristic of the jazzmaster or do I have an issue with the lead circuit?

My best guess is there is something wrong going on here. I haven't played the Squier JM, but if it's anything like my MIJ, there should be not significant volume drop. If anything, the volume should be constant with the neck pups. Did ou buy new or used? Is the pick up selector on the lead channel in the middle, if so, it's wired out of phase. You may need to either take her back (if new) or , if you're as curious as I am, poke your head in under the hood. All in all, blame China!

Both volume controls are wide open and I have tested all positions on the lead circuit. I have played the guitar on two amps and two patch cords. i'll probably have it looked at after Christmas.

So I plugged it in again this morning, same issue. I flipped the toggle switch and the guitar is loudest in the middle position. I cranked the volume to 10 on the amp and it got a bit louder with more bass as I increased the amp volume. The amp should have been screamin' loud but it wasn't. The guitars volume was all the way up.

Possibly phase issue... which I am sure these are not wired for stock... are they?

No I don't think so. They are reverse wound.

if you had bought it used, somebody could've been fooling around in there not knowing what they are doing and crossed some wires, or even put the pups in wrong. If it were a phase issue, it would be wimpy in the middle position. Maybe you should try raising the pups a bit.

This was a brand new item that i special ordered. No-one but me has played it. I thought about adjusting the pickups but I don't think that would work because the rhythm circuit is working normally. Since I've only had this guitar a month and not much amp time, I am trying to figure out if it was like this when I bought it and didn't notice or if it happened while in my posession.
