Last weekend Lady Armadillo and I went to see my cousin Lincoln Durham play a gig in Fort Worth...I got an advanced copy of his CD, which drops January 31st. It is called "The Shovel vs. The Howling Bones"...it was produced by Ray Wylie Hubbard and George Reiff. Excellent disc (and I'm not just saying that--I'm a harsh critic); it's Texas/Americana/Blues stuff similar to what Ray Wylie Hubbard and various Texas Music artists play. The cover is a tad misleading; it's a cool pic (I think his lovely wife took it) but he looks like something from A Clockwork Orange on the artwork. The music definitely doesn't fit that genre at all. Go to his website and check out his music, it's pretty cool stuff.

I got to get on stage and play harp with him during his last song ("Reckoning Lament"), and it made the performing bug strike again...just three more months and I'll have graduated college, and there will be some free time on the docket for playing, recording and jamming again. Armadillo 'Tween is excited because her guitar lessons will be more regular.

The next day I was able to go to my studio in Arlington, Texas and record the basic tracks for two songs as well as finalize the cover art for a disc we (The Screamin' Armadillos) have had in the can for over three years. Hopefully we'll have it out soon...I'll tell y'all when...

I was able to eat my favorite BBQ, see my folks, avoid some folks I didn't care to see, the Dallas Cowboys won and the NY Giants lost, so all and all, it was a good weekend.

Sounds great Screamin Armadillo! Great food & football games serve as a good combination too! BTW...I just got exposure to Americana music 4 years ago. A buddy of mine in Atlanta plays in a group called Liberty Jones.

Getting Christmas off the right sort of start. Cool! 8)

Thanks for the headsup on your cousin's CD. But it's the hotly awaited forthcoming Screamin' Armadillos album that some of us are hanging on for with bated breath.

By the way, from my distant viewpoint Cowboys vs Giants sounds like a fantasy movie we should probably be taking my wife's nephews to...

Cheers - C

Come on, SA, is that ALL you managed to work into your weekend? You should learn to live a little!

Okay, okay, for those who can't figure it out - I'm kidding. It's great when things go right once in a while and it sounds like things were awesome for you. And that performing bug - it's always there - just bites a little harder now and then. I love it when I get the chance to bite back!

Keep on rockin'!

if you come with your expectations low, our CD sounds great. Our first one went aluminum, and we have slightly higher expectations for this one (since we vaguely knew what we were doing the second time). Maybe this one will go zinc or even bronze!

We have another disc in the can as well, but we're trying to get the older one out first.

Re: Cowboys and Giants.
Ah yes, the vagaries of American football mascots...that's ok, for years I wondered why Rod Stewart was singing about a bunch of ancient Europeans coming together in "You're In My Heart" ("You're Celtic, United, but baby I decided you're the best thing I ever found...")
