I tried Elixer strings on my Strat and hated them. I took them right off. I found them to be tone vampires so I never tried them on my acoustic guitars. They were really expensive, which doesn't bother me if they work for me. On my 12 string I use Martin Marquis 80/20 Bronze. Really nice strings. On my six string acoustics I use Martin Lifespan strings. Best advise I can give you is try them. What I like and they style I play is probably way different than yours.

I'm using Ernie Ball Earthwood Acoustic Guitar Strings Silk & Steel 12 String Soft (9-46). I really like the tone and feel.

I really like the Nanoweb Elixirs on acoustic guitars (I don't play live, just recording), but I think 12's are even a little heavy on a six-string... on a 12, I'd go as light as I could stand. Are you talking about an electric or acoustic 12 string?

I make up my own sets as no one makes them that slim.First I base it on a set of D'Addario 8-38s and buy 2 more single 8s and single 10s a 17P and a 20 W.I double the extra strings with the coinciding full set strings.I can get a real Rick type jangle with my old Vox Phantom XII.

Most players use 10's on a 12 strings. anything thicker you run into problems pushing both strings down and bridge lift. I started on 10's and then moved onto 9's but it was causing a bone spur on the tip of the index finger of my fret hand. I used Elixirs on the 12 string only because it is a pain to change strings on a 12 string. I also use nano webs on my small body acoustic and my mandolin. I like the sound and the diminished finger slide noise.

Use a light set on the 12 string unless you want to eventually pull the bridge off the guitar. There's a lot of tension on the top of a 12 string.

I've been searching for more than 10 years to find myself a higher end pro-grade 12 string A/E. I think twelves are becoming more rare in popular music than they once were and so builders are making fewer of them. Adding to my difficulty is the fact that the ones that they do make all seem to be Dreadnoughts and I want an Auditorium or Concert shape.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Take care,
Mac

I play 12's on my strats but 10's on my mandolin and I used 10's on my 12 string. It takes more pressure to push down two strings. Also again with anything bigger then 10's on a 12 string you run the risk of early bridge lift and shortening the time between neck resets. My 1929 L-00 got to the point I was running 10's to say stress on the neck and top. Acoustic guitars are fickle beast.
