"It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ed Roman.

Ed Roman was a big personality. We understand that many people have questions regarding the circumstances surrounding his passing. His death however is still very recent, and is a heartbreaking shock to the family. We ask that you please be respectful of the sensitive nature involved with losing a loved one, and the mourning process that follows.

We will remember him fondly and are keeping his legacy alive. We are conducting business as usual and all orders in process are on schedule, so keep the orders coming, and they will be addressed with the same quality, care and pride you have come to expect from all of us at Ed Roman.

A more formal announcement from Lindsey Star Roman will be forthcoming. Thank you very much for your consideration.

Lindsey Star Roman and the Ed Roman Crew"

Never dealt with him but I understand those who did never forgot the experience.

I never dealt with the man but I used to read quite a bit of his web page stuff and I heard stories from guys who did deal with him. He certainly was a colorful character. Larger than life in some respects.

I'd be interested to know what questions there might be concerning the circumstances surrounding his passing.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

His website :
http://www.edroman.com/

A review from Yelp:
"I called this place and the lady I talked to was nice enough. After going through a vetting process where she collected my name, address, email address and cell #, she put me on hold so I could talk to the Grand Wizard, Ed Roman. It was weird to say the least - I mean who does that? Is Ed going to send me a thank you note - after my conversation with him, I doubt it. Anyway, ol' Ed got on the line and I told him I wanted an 80's BC Rich and that I heard he had a good selection. He then launched into a monologue on how he had a beautiful BC Rich Eagle - which he could sell for half of $6k b/c it was not "balanced". When I told him that was too much money, he curtly replied, "Wha, you want a toy?" to which I replied, "Sure."
He said, "Call Guitar Center" - I thanked him for his time, but before I finished, he hung up on me."

Wow. Any way you cut it, the end of a legend.

The manner of the announcement raises questions it doesn't answer. But probably more important to think of his friends and family at this time.

Thanks Mike - C

I thoroughly enjoy reading Ed's rants!

I learned a ton about guitars, the guitar industry, and guitar manufacturing via his web site.

Thank You Ed -- Rest in Peace!

My condolences to his family and friends!

If memory serves, he sold me my first PRS back in '94 when he was at Eastcoast Music in Danbury, CT.

This is a surprise. I was checking out his website last week for the first time in a couple of years.

I took my son to the Eastcoast Music Mall in '92 to help him pick out his first (and only) Strat. I wonder if Ed was there then.

Rest In Peace, Big Guy.

I believe that Alex Lifeson has a '91 model and one of the first. If you still have
that '94 Model, it's value might be quite high. It wasn't until the late 90s when
to keep up with demand, he started importing the student edition (SE) models.

Nah!! Story of my life. It was a '94 CE24 bolt on...Whale Blue Quiltop w/gold hardware. I went up there for a McCarty but he thought my wife would like the other one better. She did, She picked it out. Nice guitar, but there was a Fender in my future.

There are a couple of things which tie him to that area. He's quoted as having known
Jon Mayer from that part of the world. I also remember his saying something to me about an involvement w/ BC Rich guitars, which follows earlier comments herein. It's quite possible that he was there in '92.

He sure was a colorful character. He knew a lot, had his strong opinions, and definitely (as pointed out) did have his rants. RIP....
