Just for the record, i never thought you were the one who created this thing, I thought you reaction to the first post was justified.

Why'd he get banned?

I wondered about that myself, Floyd.

The OP apparently lacked the stones to absorb the onslaught he knew would be coming.

He should be henceforth known as "jakethejerkoff".

He might not have been banned, he might have just deleted his post. Skirt So Plain was in the habit of doing that under his first few incarnations/screen names, making the first reply post look like they started the thread.

A rather cowardly and rude move, in my opinion. At least have the courage to stand up and back up your claims, no matter how ridiculous or wrong (as his claims often were, especially in this case).

...or he might have been banned. He was a flame-war veteran on the level of many of our happily removed plagues, erm...former members.

Can that be right, though? I thought that you could only delete a post (using the "X" button) before someone else has posted something beneath it. From that point on you can only edit a post, not remove it.

...I think?

By the way, I utterly applaud the way Brad runs this Forum. A very light touch, but quiet, firm action when required. But I do wish when people are ejected their posts could be left to stand, because it often makes nonsense of threads when crucial posts, especially thread openers, vanish.

And most definitely, Floyd should not have to carry the can for starting this silly thread!

Hi oxfan: because he's a foul mouthed little shrike who comes here only to start trouble. It's not the first time he's been deleted from the Forum. Just for example, under a previous username he started a thread with a reasonable enough question to which several of us gave friendly, helpful replies - and got a storm of obscene verbal abuse for our efforts.

Certain problem Forum users plainly have "issues" behind their behavior and in any case are not actually abusive, even if fairly wearisome. This does not apply to Jake, who is simply an obnoxious kid in urgent need of firmer parental guidance.

All of which explains the reaction of many on this thread, which seemed to be surprising you in your earlier post.

There's history.

Cheers - C

I've been hanging around the Forums for quite a while and have had more than my share of incidents with stupid people. Maybe I wasn't paying attention regarding the post. Lately there have been a lot of tense moments and they seem to work out. Trust me, I wasn't encouraging him.

I never really hung in The Lounge and don't know everyone all that well, I will tell you, lots of good people here as well as your assorted dinks.

I heard that Pete Townshend has a backup guitar player when The Who plays live behind the curtain because of the tinnitus in his ears. Somebody correct me in if I'm wrong on this.

Hi Highline: then respectfully I will.

For some years now Pete's younger brother Simon has been playing backing guitar in the band, but he's right there on stage, not hiding behind a curtain. Here's a photo from earlier this year: there's Simon right behind Roger Daltrey. And that's Rabbit Bundrick on keys behind Townshend: back in the day he used to be set up so far to the side of the stage that some of the audience probably couldn't see him, but that wasn't fakery as such; I think the idea was just that he wasn't part of the band's front line. And that went for various other backing musicians The Who carried at different times in their live career too - horn sections and such. We could see them, they just weren't at the front of the stage. I'm sure nobody in the audience felt they were being had on:

I can see how these sorts of notions get generated. In the late '80s for the tinnitus reason you mentioned Townshend took to playing acoustic on stage, sometimes with the strategically placed perspex baffles that are nowadays so popular for ear protection. At that time he was indeed being doubled by another guitarist - but again, in full view. No pretending.

Also, The Who were amongst the earliest users of backing tracks as part of their live sound, for the synth parts in numbers such as Won't Get Fooled Again and Baba O'Riley. But nobody was pretending that those parts were somehow coming out of Pete or John's instruments. It was clear to the audience what was going on; there was no fakery.

...I'm only typing all of this because I thought it might be nice to have a bit of reality on this fatuous thread. I notice MissStevie just got banned for the umpteenth time, but in my opinion he isn't the most tiresome of our current Forum trolls. Mentioning no names... Jake.

Cheers - C

Hi Ceri,

Sorry to resurrect this obviously painfully flawed thread but I did want to thank you for setting the record straight. I have the utmost respect for Mr. Townshend and I appreciate getting the straight dope!

Cheers!

I know what you mean, the guy is a complete burnout, now he's claiming to be 41 years old and even posted posing supposedly as his father making apologies for Jake.Even when he asks for honest reviews of his "music" and people try to offer friendly constructive advice he resorts to name calling and gets offended that some dare make a comment that didn't sing his praises.I've put the verbal boots to him many times here and on the Gibson site but the guy won't learn,he definitely has some major psychological issues.I can't see why the forum police at Gibson haven't seen fit to ban him there too.The guy obviously doesn't have a note in his head and couldn't carry a tune if you put handles on it and as for guitar he has absolutely no aptitude whatsoever.

He came over maybe 3 weeks ago not to long after he was banned here. He posted some gawd awful tune of his and I asked him if he knew what he was doing ; how to use his equipment etc... Seriously in the videos there are some really nice guitars and a Marshall DSL Half stack, then he pushes the amp with some cheap pedal to make the amp sound like a rabid chainsaw. I have been using Marshalls for almost 30 years and offered to help him get a better tone, as did many others. Next thing you know he is all pissed at everyone including me etc.... The final straw is or was his version of Money. It did not even come close to being the right notes let alone the key. Then he came up with the story that he is his father etc.... I wonder if he is at Ibanez now?

Oh did ya hear he is also a music teacher.

As a (mostly) self-trained musician who prefers to play my own version of other people's songs (on the rare occasions I play a cover tune), I find his inability (or refusal) to even vaguely play such a distinctive lick properly strange.

I find his petty, angry, childish response offensive and hateful.

I find his arrogant grandiosity laughable.

Strange, offensive, hateful and laughable...I hope he takes up residence at the BC Rich website, because I never venture over there at all!
