I stopped taking you seriously when you said the only real bands are famous ones. What great decision that was, because -shocker -   YOU HAVE NO F***ING CLUE WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!

All bands play their music through speakers, unless they are totally acoustic (such as an orchestra--even then they may be miked)--otherwise you wouldn't hear them.
So I'm not sure what that comment was supposed to mean...

And the rest falls in the same category.

You need to provide some sort of proof...

+1000

Actually it's hard to assign any credibility at all to someone who insisted that they owned a Fender "Stratacaster" then submitted a photoshopped image to support his indefensible assertion.

(another name to be added to my "foes" list)

How fake are those 3 fullstacks, Marky's drumset, Johnny's Mosrite, Dee Dee's P Bass, Joey's mic? How fake are those people? The Ramones are decently famous, yet their music isn't the least bit fake, nor were they. I hear brain transplants are under study. You should be a guinea pig.

Ha if you think they make all their money from recording and tv then you really don't know whats up. Touring and playing live shows is the only way a lot of bands are able to get an income nowdays. Selling CD's is nothing like it was.

Another thing that people don't seem to notice is the instruments sound too perfect even with practice and practice and practice a human being is going to miss a few notes and a guitar is going to have the natural sounds such as when the strings make a skipping sound from your fingers and the normal pops of static (NORMAL) and pick strikes. If your used to playing a guitar electric or acoustic your probably used to the natural sound of the instrument and sound that it makes occasionally rather than the actual playing aspect.

That's an interesting point and one that I've encountered fairly recently whilst recording.
I've been pulling my hair out (what I have left!) trying to reduce the hum from P90s (I ended up recording Robert Johnson Style I.E. sat in the corner facing the wall) to try and cut down on noise. And recording acoustics is just a nightmare! I tried using moisturiser and (polyweb) elixir strings and eventually got it down to a minimum. Funny story - I've been recording round the singer in my band's house and his girlfriend was a bit perplexed as to why the room we were alone in (the singer and I) smelled of baby lotion! But I digress... the reason you don't want too much squeak and hiss is because it can just sound too distracting when heard through headphones or whatever. Granted, there's music where it's great to hear all those natural and organic sounds but equally there are times when it just sounds ... inappropriate!
Does that make it fake? I don't know, but it certainly makes it slick and glossy and some stuff just sounds better that way.

Maybe this was done as a joke, but the point I'm trying to establish is made clear in this video. FAKE PLAYING!

Nirvana makes it obvious, obviously here, but what I'm saying is that It can be very easy to fake a performance musically and I personally think musicians do it all the time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dLT-I_OsjNw

Theirs no room for error when things are already correct, with said, to make something perfect they fake it.

As I said before, I'm not just picking on Nirvana by any means.

HAHA, that vid's fuckin hilarious! i pissed myeslf!
and of course it was done to take the $@!& out of the TV program. who would wanna make it that obvious that they were faking?

Playing a live show and a tv show are two completley diffrent things. Lot of TV programms similar to SNL, Tonight's show etc. force artist to mime to either pre-recorded (recorded at rehearsals) or album versions of their songs, so it looks good on TV. Lot of bands such as Nirvana, Smiths and Sex Pistols have opposed that by not even trying.

As for playing pitch perfect at concerts. Forget it. If Jimi Hendrix couldn't do it then noone could. If you follow a band around from concert to concert you notice that they make plenty of mistakes during their performance's. You never hear the same song performed the same way from concert to concert.
Don't get me wrong, Musicans use plenty of "cheats" to get the desired sound during live perfomances. Iron Maiden and Muse (and many more bands) use keyboard players to get more "filled in" sound, but you don't often see those players on stage. Lot of bands use backtracks to fill in instruments that where recorded on their album, for example if a band records three layers of guitars on a song but there are only two guitarplayers, the might use a backtrack for the third guitar and that guitar is always pitchperfect because it is recorded.
Lot of bands, including KISS, also fix the sound on live CD's and DVD's. I recall reading it in a book puplished by KISS where they described how they fixed bits and pieces of the voices, the guitars, the bass and the drums for Alive III.

As for traveling. It is possible to travel so extensitive. How? You might have heard of a certain invention called Airplane. The Wright Brothers made the first succesful flight in 1903 and it got a huge uprade in the 1940's thanks to an English invention called Jet Engine. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Airplane#History

Jake,I don't think you know enough about the music business to make that call, even though you claim to have your own band, recording studio, record label, biggest hits compilation, etc,ad nauseum.
I've been a musician for over 40 years, and have been in the Music City area all my life,I've had friends who have been in famous bands over the years, and have a relative working with one of the biggest,if not the biggest acts in country/pop music today.
I have heard and forgotten more about the way these bands pull off shows than you ever will,I'll bet....since it seems most of your observations are from watching youtube and TV.....you just don't know what you're talking about, are there aids to shows that the musicians use?...yep....are all bands fake?....nope.

Just something I`ve noticed lately. I see a few new members using foul language in their posts. We have to consider the younger people and women that also join in on the forums. Try to clean it up a little, we can make our point without the all the bad language.
