What is the general consensus on these? 5w vibro and 15w super. Do these make good tube amps for home use? I noticed that some people felt that the blues jr. had some draw backs. Are these the same. I have not tried one.

I have the Vibro-Champ XD and I love it for practice and recording. The Blues Jr. is a true tube amp (and too loud for the condo) where the SCXD and VCXD are hybrids.

I know the Vibro Champ is a lower wattage amp but, 5 Class A watts can be VERY loud. I just bought a Super Champ XD for only 200 bucks and I have nothing to complain about. I'm not 100 percent sure whether the 16 voices are actually modeled like some say, or whether the DSP does something to make the pre amp tube act a certain way or what...it doesn't matter...it DOES sound good...At 200 bucks, it's easily half the cost of a Blues Jr for the identical wattage (15 by the way) and it really sounds like an expensive amp. I hear the channel switching is not as smooth as the Blues Jr either but, I tend to do all my gain staging via the volume control on my guitar anyway. I never liked channel switching so it's a total non issue. I just use the clean channel with a Fulltone OCD, as well as chorus, tremolo and delay pedals in a chain in front of the Super Champ (using only the Super Champ's reverb...which actually sounds very good...I usually hate digital reverb). I got it as a smaller alternative to my Hot Rod Deluxe which was proving impractical for smaller gigs. The Super Champ is VERY loud and present or, it can operate at bedroom volumes as well. No complaints at all here. Highly recommended for the price!

I bought a Super Champ about 2 years ago as a practice amp and I love it. Bang for the buck it was an incredible deal and it definitely has the fender tube MOJO. I compared it side by side with a Blues Jr. and it won hands down IMHO. I've had no issues with it at all and have used it at LEAST an hour a day every day since I bought it. I have no puritan issues with tube vs transistor signal chain...most of the tube amps I've owned have always needed some sort of help on the front end to get any good sounding dirt, so this amp is no different. I rarely use more than 1 or 2 of the voicings but they are quite likable from my point of view. The built in effects are passable and some are actually really great sounding. Out of a 10 I'd give it an 8 1/2 only because there is always something to look forward too. HTH

I'm thinking of picking up a VC-XD after the holidays. I read some where that there was an issue with the 470ohm resister coming off the 6v6. Possibly having to change it because it causes the tube to run too hot. Has anyone run into this(short tube life)?

Thanks

What would make you choose the Vibro over the Super?

trewblue,

I have a Vibro-Champ XD, bought new about 3+ years ago and it's been a good little amp to use at home. Still has the 2 original tubes in it and sounds fine, mind you I don't move it around, it just basically sits in one spot, in one room and used when required. For that purpose it's served me well and the sound that comes out of it belies it's size and low cost, I like it.

If I need an amp to go somewhere or to play with others, I grab either one, or both my 5e3's.

Deluxe Mat,
I only play at home. I have a Vox AC4TV and a Blackstar HT1. I use a 1x12 homemade cab with a 12 inch Altek Lansing in it. I thought the VC would fit in nicely. I also have a Vox VT15.
