Just keep practicing. Either take some lessons or get some good beginner practice books.

Just keep playing, your fingers will eventually stretch to the positions where you want them.

learn a scale or three and play them all over the neck untill your sick of hearing it then play it some more !!!!!!!!!
then learn every chord you can and make some music with it.

some would argue that chords should come first and they may be right, I think scales prepare your fingers and hand muscles better.

remember accuracy first then speed !!!!

Agreed. I'm not sure which one to learn first. I learnt open chords first, then Barre Chords. It can't be said enough "accuracy first, then speed". Strum the chord, then play each string individually to make sure that you are fretting the string properly. Speed will come.

I took a semester guitar course at the local community college after I got frustrated teaching myself guitar. It helped immensely with technique and was not nearly expensive as taking lessons. From there... practice, practice, practice...

I learned chords first mainly playing rhythm using the chords. After many years I finally decided to work on leads. Dont know why I waited so long. At this point it feels like I have missed out on becoming a well rounded player. I decided to take more lessons to fill in the gaps.
