Hey friends, quick question. I am just curious if I need to pick up any kind of special wire for pickup installation. I have a spool of 22AWG wire that I typically use in automotive applications, will this be sufficient or do I need to pick up something special?

Howdy Tim!

Yep. 22AWG is pretty much the industry standard and is what I've always used.

Just out of curiosity, what are you planning to use it for?

Andy (in need of his geeky wiring fix!)

Speaking from personal experience ,as long as you don't just cut it out of an old lamp, you should be grand.

I have a few different things I'm doing right now Andy. I am rewiring my buddy's FSR standard Tele, with an s/c sized humbucker (Dimarzio Tone Zone T) in the bridge, and a Seymour Duncan Jazz in the neck, with a mini toggle for coil splitting the neck humbucker. Next on the list will be installing a Tele neck pickup on another buddy's acoustic. I plan to put up pics, and may just start a "mods" thread to show off all my handiwork lately. I have been runnin' my soldering iron at full throttle for the last few weeks, and I'm seeing no signs of things slowing down right now.

Sweet!

I've always preferred mini-toggles over push pull when it come coil taps. Looking forward to your Mods Thread.

Very cool! 8)

Andy

BTW: I've always found wiring guitars with old lamp wire gives a nice bright tone  :D
