Recent events brought my attention to the Friends and Foes feature of this community. I knew it was there but never gave it much thought. Now I begin to understand a number of people, myself included, have begun to use the Foes list feature and I am now familiar with how how to use it and how it works out in practice. I am curious if anybody ever uses the Friends feature and just what exactly that does.

I'm undecided as to how I feel about the foe list as a feature, I'm afraid of it making the forum a bit more insular. I'd also be afraid of someone misinterpreting something I say and foeing me.
If you can still see that someone on your foe list has posted, and you can ignore that, why can't you just ignore the contents of the post?

That wasn't my question. (See dragbean? Threads get derailed.) I did not ask about Foes, I asked about Friends. Does anyone have any information on the Friends feature?

Public Point of Order:
I'm not throwing a hissy fit when someone suggests something other than what I asked about. I simply try to steer the thread back. That's how we play nice in the sandbox.

I prefer to think of it as a digression.
Back on topic, I have no idea what the friends list does, but I'm open to experimentation if you'd like to find out.

No. It keeps my blood pressure down. Someone on this forum would pick on every word I said and take my comments out of context just to annoy me or attempt to make me look stupid. Talk about egos huh? It would start a huge argument and waste not only my time, but everyone elses time who read it. Now, he may still do it, but I don't see it and all is good with the world. I've seen all kinds of A holes come and go, now I just setup who I want to see. It's a beautiful thing. You're not required to use the function.

I haven't used the friends feature, so I wouldn't begin to know if it changes anything to put someone on your friend list. I rather like the Foes feature though. That single feature is the reason I am still posting on this forum at all; all the nonsense was starting to get old and it's nice to be able to ignore the annoying ones.

When the friends list feature first came in I and another Forum user experimented putting each other on it to see what happened. If anything happened... we didn't spot it. If you go to your user control panel I guess you can see whether any of your friends are online at that moment. I don't know of anything else it achieves.

There are no names on my foes list - I apologise if that is a hijack. (But then hijack is my middle name. Thanks for that, dad. 8) )

Cheers - C

Ah Ha!

Thank you for that. I too was wondering what functionality the friends list had. I can't see me using it as the list would be huge... everyone here is just so darn friendly! :D

My list got pretty long too: I didn't know if people could tell at the other end whether they'd been added, and I was worried someone would feel left out.

You're on it - does your screen get a kind of warm glow as a result?

Cheers - C

Was he greeting your uncle Jackie when the nurse was writing your name on the birth certificate?

Thanks mate. I'd hate to see what happen to people who might end up on you Foe's List. :|

Nah, he just wanted me to have a tough time at airports. He's had a similar cross to bear: his middle name is Up. First name, Hans.

You're on my friends list too, SA (along with most people here). Did you notice anything... different... about the Forum the moment that happened? Big friendly smilie in the corner of the screen when I'm online, or something?

Nope. I thought not.

Cheers - C

He doesn't spend a lot of time in bank lobbies, I hope... :P

No, but a big smile appears on my face when I see your name in the "On this forum" list at the bottom of the page. :)
...you're on my Friends list as well, the first I added when I found the feature.
