Hello

I'm fixing to finally purchase new pickups. Getting tired of the Lace Pups after all these years. Since I'm such a David Gilmour nut and won't be getting the DG artist series strat anytime soon, I thought i'd at least check out the pickups that come installed on it and go with an Seymour Duncan SSL-5 for the neck. The Fat 50s Pickups only seem to come in sets of 3. I was hoping to get one for the neck. Does anyone know what might be comparable that is sold individual? Fender Vintage Noisless? or would i be better off just getting another SSL-5. I don't use the middle pup much if at all so not sure what i'm going to get for that. For now just want to take care of bridge and neck.

thanks.

The URL above is where you want to start looking if you are interested in Dave's guitar pickups. Make sure you study more than just the pups. There's an entire system (pups, pots, etc.) that he used for a long, long time. You can check out the link below if you might also be interested in his shorter trem arm. About middle of the page or so.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I was checking that out too. The Active EMGs were in the Red strat from mid to late 80s through the Division bell and up til about Live 8. I'm going for more of the tone from the 70s era and what's in his Black Strat. Its now a toss up between the Hot Rail and the SSL-5 but i'm leaning toward the SSL-5 for the bridge. I guess i'll just have to see what they got but might just get one of those for the Neck too. I would imagine any of the Fender 50's, 54's or 67 series or even the SSL5 in the neck would be better than the Lace... i hope.

of course... I don't play like Gilmour anyway so who am i kidding LOL

Might try here: http://www.stratcat.biz/index.shtml
They will sell the pickups seperate.
It costs more per pickup that way.
They have a Gilmour style guitar parts page.

I've decided to get a set of the CS 69s just to get all the Lace ones out of there and get the wiring done. Then hopefully not to far down the road, replace the Bridge pup with the SD SSL-5. Hopefully will be getting those soon... i have pickup aquisition syndrome.

Howdy,

pickups are ordered. Can't wait to get them. Quick question about caps. I have some .022 caps that came with the fender pots. I was thinking about using those with the new pups and one of them for a treble bleed circuit mod. Does anyone see an issue with this? I'm learning so i didn't see much point in going nuts with searching for different caps until i see where my starting point is sound wise.

thanks all.

eventually i'll be getting the SD-SSL5 for the bridge.
