Today, the music community lost a fine sideman. Dick Sims, keyboard player, was most famous for recording and touring with a long line of acts including two of the greats. Bob Seger and Eric Clapton.

His work with Bob Seger culminated with the recording of Back in '72 which contained the classic "Turn the Page".

During the mid-70s, Sims (keyboards), Carl Radle (bass) and Jamie Oldaker (drums) were pioneers of the "Tulsa Sound". Sims' playing can be heard on all of Clapton's releases from those years, including 1974s 461 Ocean Boulevard, '75s There's One in Every Crowd, 75s EC Was Here (Live), 76s No Reason to Cry, 77s Slowhand and 78s Backless.

During his lengthy career, he also toured and recorded with Joan Armatrading, Peter Tosh, Stephen Stills, Pure Prairie League, Etta James, Carlos Santana, Perry Farrell and others. Sims' only solo album, Within Arms Reach, was released in 2008. Sims was residing in Tulsa at the time of his death.

RIP Mr. Sims.

Tragic!

First Dobie Gray and now Dick.

The angels have one helluva fine keyboard player now.

RIP

Arjay

It's a sad thing: So many wonderfully talented musicians go through life in relative obscurity. They seldom get the kind of recognition that they deserve. In many cases they are the backbone of the industry. Like the old Wrecking Crew, if you saw one of them on the street you wouldn't have a clue who they were. RIP Mr. Sims, and as you play your key Board as an angle, may you be recognised as a heavenly player.
----Danny,
