I saw a used Strat in a Guitar Center Store in a Southeastern U.S. city this afternoon that had a tag on it that read "Classic 50's Strat", with no other information about the guitar on it....It appeared to me to be Lake Placid blue in color with a maple fretboard...The fretboard appeared aged somewhat with some yellowing on the pickguard and plastic cover on the back....I did not discuss the guitar with any of the store personnel....It had a serial number on the neck plate, but none on the rear of the headstock...The serial number began with the letter "V".....The Guitar Center store had your standard discounted prices on Strats....This USED Strat had a price tag of $1100.00, more than the NEW "Classic Series 50's" Strats on the official Fender website....Can anyone give me some insight into what model this Strat is? Thanks!

Hi asgard636,

There is no "Classic 50s Strat" model made by Fender, so it's not the model, but apparently the stores description. There are "Classic Series 50s" and "Classic Player 50s", neither has a neck plate serial number, and neither are worth $1100, not even when new. The serial number on the neck plate means that it might be a Vintage reissue, or the plate could have been added, or the guitar could be a fake altogether. Hard to say without pictures.

You didn't ask at the store about the guitar, but expect us to know what you saw? :?

If this really is a Fender Stratocaster, that part of the forum might be a better place to post. Not that they can imagine what you saw any better.

The store was crowded at the time and the kid working the reception counter wasn't able to give me any additonal info on it. I actually meant to post on the "Strat" board and will cross post over there....I realize I need to attempt to track down a knowledgeable sales associate next time I'm in the store; I just couldn't resist asking here among Strat freaks!
