To my eye, surf green, daphne blue, and fiesta red are all knockout colors on Stratocasters, but these pastels don't work on Telecasters for me. The colors that make Tele's look best are not always the ones I favor on Strats. I just find that strange on my behalf, and wonder what makes me see it that way? When we look at a guitar does it also take us back to certain memories, and times that belong to that particular style and color of guitar, and others just don't fit in that image? For example, when I think of a Jaguar, I think white because that's what the local surf bands were playing at the time. Sunburst just doesn't look right on a Jaguar, but it is so right on a Telecaster. But, that's only me, and that's why Fender makes guitars in so many shades I guess.

+1

Blues and greens on a Tele just don't do it for me. But I love all those shades on a Strat. And for some reason my mind associates all of the vintage opaque colors (Sea Foam Green, Daphne Blue, Fiesta Red, etc) on a Strat with maple furniture. Conversely, the metallics (Lake Placid Blue, Candy Apple Red, Ocean Turquoise Metallic, etc) seem to look their best with rosewood.

Weird, huh?

:P

I must agree. I wouldn't want a candy apple red Stratocaster with a banana yellow pickguard.

Could it be that the shape of the Strat looks much more 60's and therefore the beatnick colours seem more appropriate?

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

My favorite's are the 50's Automotive colors The Yellows /Greens/Blues & Black They just seem to fit Fender guitars. For Acoustic Guitars I prefer the Sunburst Shades. 8)

I love almost all the orange colors...Candy Tangerine, Fiesta Red, that old Gretsch orange...the only one I don't like is the 80's Day-Glo Orange.

I also like any of the darker/emerald green colors...Sherwood, English Racing/Jaguar green, etc...

Blondes and TV Yellows are killer...

Tele's can look good in green. This one is a '57 that's been refinished, I believe in an automotive color. It's ready to rock and it's ready to roll. The U shaped neck is just perfection.
