Hi all

My name is Rizal, and I live in Malaysia. I am new to this forum, and I don't actually own a Fender yet. But I do own a couple of other brand guitars. I have play guitar for couple of years, but there were about 10 years where I totally stopped playing. However, for the past 3 years, I have pick the guitar up, and have been playing ever since. I consider myself amateur. I have no formal lesson, just learn from friends, and things I picked up here and there.

English is not my first language, so there will be times, where I may have expressed things incorrectly, or couldn't get my point across as effectively. Hope fellow forum members would be able to tolerate that, and correct me in that situation.

I would to understand more about Fender, and Tele specifically. Having played my friend's Tele recently I have developed an urge (GAS) to own one (or two).

Welcome aboard, matey. As a Telecaster owner myself, I can tell you they're great. They give an amazing surf tone if set up correctly. What kind were you considering?

That is a good question. The question that I have been asking myself a lot. I have search the internet, and there are so many variations of Teles, which confuses me more.

Generally, this is what I am looking for.
1. Pups - No humbucker. Whatever series. I need to experience this to know what I like.
2. Fretboard - Maple
3. Fret size - Jumbo or at least medium jumbo fret
4. Body wood - Not sure, but no basswood or mahogany.
5. Neck profile - No clue. I'll take anything since it will be my first Tele.
6. Color - Preferably red, or cream colored.
7. Bridge - Hardtail.

Hi Rizal! Welcome. Most of us don't know English that well either. :D Good luck with your musical adventures. The Tele is the best guitar ever. Don't believe anybody that tells you different. :P Cheers.

Thanks. However, I have to believe what other people tells me. They all said, Tele is great. I have no reason to doubt that.

I don't know of any Telecasters that are hardtail.

There aren't that many which aren't. I agree on the MIM standard being the way to go.

Woah, you almost named all of the options on mine. Except it's got an HB in the neck position. You should definitely consider building from parts. The Stratosphere is really reliable. I got my neck from there and they're willing to haggle a bit. I hope all goes well.

Welcome to the Fender Forum. Your English is just fine. You seem to get your points across very well.
The Tele is in my opinion a good choice. I have an American Standard and it's a fine instrument, but for about half the price $400/$500 you can get a MIM Standard Tele. I swear you will have a tough time telling them apart. The Mexican Guitars are nice playing and have close to the same feel as the Americans. I also have an American Standard Strat also a fine instrument, and my personal favorite. It has a more comfortable feel to it. But make your own choice, just give them both a try before you make up your mind. Have fun with your search. 8)

Rizal,

Welcome to the Forum. For the most part we are a good bunch of people to be associated with.

Telecasters are a great guitar. I do not own one, they just are not my cup of tea. Depending on your budget, there are several models that are out there.

The Telecasters with hartail bridges that I know of are:

Fenders

Blacktop
Classic Series '72 Deluxe
Classic Player Deluxe Black Dove
Modern Player Plus
Special Edition
Jim Root

Squiers

Most of the Artist Series
Vintage Custom I and II's

Each guitar has their own unique specs so see which ones you like. I think for a beginner or as I like to say "born again player" and if you want to stay in the Fender family, the Modern Player is the best bang for your money. I have not has a chance to play one yet, but I hear rave reviews about them.

The one thing you need to remember that most Telecasters that have hardtail bridges, they have them because they have humbucker pickups in their bridge positions.

If you are looking for more classic twangy-sparkley sound, there are single coil versions that have the adjustable 6 saddle bridge option as well as the classic 3 saddle versions.

Hi Rizal, welcome aboard. May I also suggest the MIM to you and good luck. The MIM Tele is an excellent choice and not just for beginners. They just get better and better year after year.
