The four armed monster-Stone Gossard and Mike McCready.

No one will ever discount Pearl Jam, but they are just so good with making you feel a riff. Yellow Ledbetter for example just oozes. Plus htheir work with Neil Young, Bayleaf, and Mad season are so good.

I agree with JPD's list, but would also add Bruce Welch (also of the Shadows). there are times that his hand should come away from his arm at the speed it's moving.

Johnny Greenwood. (Radiohead) Although the band is obviously well recognized, I don't think he gets the credit he deserves as a guitarist. While not flashy, his playing is always spot on and the parts he writes are essential to making their music work. He also wrote an awesome modern classical film score for "There Will Be Blood". Check it if you haven't already.

Marc Ribot. Can't get enough of his music. He's so tasteful and has a totally unique approach to the guitar. He plays on a lot of Tom Waits records. Check out his solo on Tom Waits' song "Hoist That Rag". It's epic.

I Agree that there is a long list. In My opinion, the one at the top of the list is (Prince). I don't care how you look at him He's one of the Greats. 8) I once referred to him as one of the Frilly Boys. I don't think Lace & Foul language go well together. May Be, one reason he's not taken as serious as some of the others. 8)

I agree with most of these, especially Mike Campbell. He delivers exactly what is needed for a song, no more no less. I would also like to add David Crosby from CSN(Y) as a rhythm guitarist.

In my opinion, Zakk Wylde's name is never high enough on the lists of "Best Guitar Players". Unfortunately, most people can't look past his rough looking exterior and tough guy attitude, but he is a monster of a guitar player. I love to hear that guy play.

Unless your from cleveland ohio, or listen to christian music, most people don't know Phil Keaggy, or his band from the 70"s called " Glass Harp". Check him out on "youtube". Very accomplished acoustic & electric guitarist. Check out the songs "Sounds" and "The Reunion".

Phil was also doing the volume swells with his pinky on his Les Paul since the very early 70's, check out " Look to the sky " , his band Glass Harp. Also he's missing most of his rt hand's 2nd finger & he still plays a great fingerstyle picking.
